In their first conference game. The defeat dumped Austin to the bottom of Big Nine standings. Albert Lea A mid-game letdown held the Packers in the Big Nine Cellar as Albert Lea bumped Austin 53-7l. Al- bert Lea's Loge hit 31 points as high point man while Carothers tallied 23 points. Winona Even with Ron Carothers hitting 31 points the Austin Packers were unable to defeat a determined Winona team. The 63-77 defeat left Austin with a O-4 Big Nine record. Roger Voss, iunior center, started his first game and showed much promise. Mankato The first Austin win in Big Nine came as no half-way effort when Austin romped over Mankato 7l-41. Ron Carothers pushed in 32 points to boost his scoring aver- age to 26.0 points per game. Coach Ove Berven used eleven players for the game. Owatonna After trailing I5-18 in the first quarter, Austin broke loose for an 85-66 win over Owatonna. Ron Carothers reached his all time high of 38 points. The game was a free throw battle as there were 5l fouls. Austin came out on top with 3l in 47 attempts. Austin's reserves, Roger Booher, John Dean, Art Fendrick, fight for possession of the ball during the district games.
