Team Develops Depth New Scoring Record Set Coach Ove Berven has a one word formula for developing his basketball team--drive. Starting the 1956-57 season with tour returning lettermen, Berven wound up the year with an experienced com- bination of seniors, juniors, and sophomores, all instilled with ambition and the necessary drive. Guards Jerry Wilde and Manly Osborn provided spark, and AHS fans are looking forward to Os- born's return as a starter next year. Jerry Peterson and Ron Carothers displayed carefully planned strategy in gaining points as forwards. Ron reached the climax of his high school career when he broke the Big Nine Conference scoring record. His average was 27.3 points per game. Roger Voss repeatedly showed his skill in collecting vital rebounds. Coach Berven's reservior of substitutes sow fre- quent action, thus gaining experience and helping win Austin victories. Future prospects look good because of returning lettermen-Roger Voss, Jerry Peterson, Manly Osborn, Roger Booher, Dave Seivers, John Dean, Jim Miller and Tom Kezar. Only four members will be lost through graduation-Ron Carothers, Jerry Wilde, Jim Randall, and Art Fen- drick. GUARD JERRY WILDE brings the FORWARD JERRY PETERSON looks on as Roger Voss adds two more points with a jump shot. PROVING THAT A FAST BREAK is gainful, Manly Osborn prepares to break around Tom Allen of Albert Lea for an easy lay-up. ball down the floor to set up another scoring play. 27
