Almost every member took part in some contest and other activity held at the local, district, and state levels. This spring our Gen- eral Livestock team placed first in the Barrow Show at Abert Lea and received a trophy. REGISTERING IS ALWAYS an important part of a convention. Here a delegate registers with Sonja Heinie and Charlotte Detwiler. FHA Stresses Essentials For Home Management The Future Homemakers of America members learn the basic necessities of sewing, cooking, and managing the home. They also practice cooperating and sharing with others. Arlette Torkelson, senior and retiring president, presided at the District Convention which was held in Austin, October 29. In March, the State Conven- tion took place in Minneapolis. Six delegates at- tended. Two of these delegates were appointed to the state committee. Sonia Heinie was chosen to be on the election committee and Arlette Torkelson was selected to be the chairman of Public Relations. A senior girl with above average grades, who is planning a career in home economics is awarded a scholarship from the Austin chapter.
