It has long been an Austin High tradition to turn the tables once each year and girls, as of now, haven't by-passed the opportunity an-d, if life continues normally, l' doubt if they ever Will. WPA week was marked by an industrious gal loaded down with books trying in vain to also open a locker, some enthusiast walk- ing her date to the door, or, in rare instances, treating him to a steak. Then, as WPA week ends, money jingles in the lad's hand and anticipation is left once again to the girls as they bow to the fart that it's a man's world! It's The Loveliest With spring, the season of sighs and flow- ers, came the Prom. As soon as school closed, dozens of boys could be seen gathered to- gether in cars and crowds discussing the eve- ning's agenda, anxious girls retired to their bedrooms to brush, press, and try on their original outfits, and overworked mothers bustled around their houses trying desperate- ly to prepare for dinners, parties, and other celebrations. Hours later, as the shades of night bc-gan to fall, many of the fortunate juniors and seniors attended dinner parties where sizzling steak or lrt spaghetti was served to all. Soon, although it seemed impossible, eight o'c1ock arrived. Girls did their final primping and anxiously glanced at watches and doorsg boys uncomfortably crawled into their fresh- ly pressed suits, parents cringed as the fam- ily car sped out of the driveway, and the Terp Ballroom, scene of the annual Junior and Senior Prom, hummed with excitement. Then as couples danced gaily to the dreamy band music, Prom night was in full swing. Spare moments were at a premium and the few minutes between dances were spent in enthusiastic conversation. The Grand March, always a high point in the eveningls program, seemed the most beautiful ever. After an- other hour of dancing, the clock struck mid- night and Austin Juniors and Seniors left the Terp with tired feet but light hearts.
