The spirit of homecoming could not be stilled as tales of the last nightys escapades, the continual buzz of girls trying to choose clothes, and the determined looks which said that this was the game reigned supreme in the hearts and minds of all. It was an ex- cited group which laughed at the pep skit and then sat in hushed silence as Queen Royalty reigns suprenie at AHS homecoming I a Mae I-':ll'rell. .Ie-an Randall. i.2llPl'il .lnlw Smith, l!Jll'lIIll'll H: Jane approached her throne to the strains of Hail to Thee. At night, however, in spite of an intense dcsirc to Win, Austin was forced to submit to a 20-0 defeat. But this didn't crush their spirits as couples drifted lightly at Lamplight Serenade-a fitting climax to a Week of blissful happiness and enthusiastic celebra- tion. ui-Iver. llellene Waldron 9

With these announcements Austin High School was immediately trans- formed into a Whirlpool of excitement as the 1955 Homecoming season approached. The annual bonfire and snake dance activities in- troduced the big event at the Athletic Field. Brightly lit faces sang and cheered excitedly about the traditional bonfire. This building has been on the agenda for some time and was finally made ready for use in the fall of 1954. Hundreds of students who range in interests from farm courses to mer- chandizing and music are already reaping the benefits of this outstanding plan. The classes, however, do not stop at 3:08-many a light is seen burning as the adults of the area take over in the evening for various types of night schooling. Certain inovations which came as a result of this addition were the underground Walk, via the tunnel, the display window which exhibits the skills of the merchandizing class. and the transfering of all music groups to the new quarters. We, the Austin student body, can feel very proud of this new addition to an already out- standing school program which is a symbol of Austin's growing desire to see the youth of the area obtain the ultimate in education.
