With these announcements Austin High School was immediately trans- formed into a Whirlpool of excitement as the 1955 Homecoming season approached. The annual bonfire and snake dance activities in- troduced the big event at the Athletic Field. Brightly lit faces sang and cheered excitedly about the traditional bonfire. The spirit of homecoming could not be stilled as tales of the last nightys escapades, the continual buzz of girls trying to choose clothes, and the determined looks which said that this was the game reigned supreme in the hearts and minds of all. Then, leaving the assem- bly, milling students finally reached Main Street Where they viewed the results of their labor-each certain that his was the best. At night, however, in spite of an intense dcsirc to Win, Austin was forced to submit to a 20-0 defeat.
