Ausl:in's Pride: Schools and Community This is the story of an overcrowded school named Austin. 'lihis Minnesota school covers two city blocks and is three stories high. but still it is not large enough for its 1900 high school students and 90 teachers. Early every morning, Monday through liri- clay. the daily activities begin. Rural students file out of big yellow buses which line two sides of the building. Bicycle racks which sur' round the school are filled while motor bikes and doodle bugs cover the parking space for .1 block. Classrooms are shared by teachers and some- times two students must use the same locker. Detours are made in certain hallways between classes because of the heavy traffic. On the coldest winter days, cafeteria lines are as long as two city blocks. This does not include the many who bring lunches. Just because the school is crowded doesn't mean that everyone does not enjoy himself. A happier and livelier student body does not exist. Maybe the old woman who lived in the shoe had trouble finding things for her children to do, but this is not the case in Austin High School.
