EDUCATIGN FoR DEMCCRACY iii' Foreword HERE are 20,000,000 high school gradu- ates in the United Statesnow with the prospects of increased numbers in the next few years to come. The way these gradu- ates feel about democracy and the way they act on their feelings will assume an import- ance almost beyond exaggeration in the com- ing life of the country. Austin High School is one of the schools seriously concerned with preserving democracy, and in widespread ed- ucation that is teaching us, the individuals, the responsibilities we have to shoulder in order to enjoy the rights and privileges of democratic education.
