One of Austin's greatest swimmers is Don Diebel who made an outstanding show by breaking two city records: the 200 and 100 yard freestyle. Both the medley and freestyle relay teams were edgedg Mike White captured a third in the 50 yard freestyleg Roger I.aRose took a fourth in the 100 yard butterfly, while jim Schulte and Tom Kahn held fourth and sixth, respectively, tn the 200 freestyle. Ted Bonneau also took a third in the 100 yard freestyle. Graduating seniors, Co-captains Marty Burke and Don Diebel, with jim Nel- son, Tom Kahn and Ted Bidigare spearheaded a team with a very promising future. Such swimmers as White, Bonneau, LaRose, Walters, Foley and Schulte and the hard-working freshmen, Cleary, Fitzsimons, Alandt, Untl, Vorhees, Petz and Wilson will insure continued strength for perennial powerhouse Austin. The Black and White has been the only Catholic team in eight years to dethrone the Sailors, although they have fallen short by three points on two occasions. Next year's squad may return with a city championship for the second time. ln order to maintain this fine tradition continued student interest and support are needed. Swimming at Austin has enjoyed success that all Friars can look on with pride. This record has been due in no smalldegree to the fine coaching and hard work of Mr. Glovannuccl. Austin was lucky to have the services of Mr. G In one of Austin's most successful spons. Fr. Maibusch was the moderator of this year's team. -eT.. .,.- as-'if lf-, X ii il H 0 1 eff la X r s-- ' - 1, f K ll R ..... , 'V' A ' g . U ,Q ki.: T ' 1 Y .
