The Friars coasted to an undefeated Central Division champion- ship by duplicating last year's fine record. Catholic Central, Servite, and Ham- tramck were formidable non-league opponents. Servite and Catholic Central were handled easily by the high-flying Friar quintet, A fired-up Hamtramck squad edged Austin in the final minute, handing the Friar five their lone regular season defeat. Three Friars distinguished themselves in the annual selection of post- season all-star teams. Center Dave DeBusshere was named to the first all-city and all-Catholic teams in addtion to the second team all-state. Co-captains Tom Stumb and Don Messing each received all-state honorable mention.

With Dick Howell doing an excellent job of field generalship, the Friars marched sixty yards culminated by Rancilio's eight yard plunge. As the second half began, Friar fortunes looked good since they led by virtue of an unconverted T.D. However, in the last quarter Sebastian broke the hearts of the Austin fans with a sixty-five punt return, the margin of victory. Dave Miller brin s down Sebastian as Dick Howell and Q Hank Ewald move in. .. - ,.11,.L. Score: Austin 6, Cathedral Central 12.
