To start us off, on Wednes- day was Dress Up Day. Girls came to school in their dresses and guys in their suits. On Thursday, stu- dents and faculty participated in wearing their zany clothes. Last, but not least. Spirit Day was on Friday. Students showed their true school spirit by dressing in RED, WHITE, and BLUE!! Last on Friday, the 9th- 12th graders went to the PEP RALLY where they could show their class spirit; to end the PEP RALLY our Homecoming King and Queen were crowned. Saturday was the Homecoming football game. Al- though the Varsity played a rough game and lost, our J.V. team brought us a G-R-E-A-T victory. Since we all know .... 'one GOOD thing leads to another! there was a dance that night with D.J. ORION . To end the Homecoming Week the girls got to show their patriot spirit with a Powder Puff football game. As you can see this was a very enjoyable and exciting week for everyone!!! WINNERS; Posters: Freshmen, Float: Sophomores, Windows: Seniors, Spir- it: Seniors. Best Dressed: Eric Cobbe, Chris Wil- kins, Missy Saltmarsh, Nancy Pearce. Best Cereal-Box Character: Brian Douglas, Pat Seymour, Flo leMerle, Darlene Robare. This is the students' way of thanking them for all of the things they have done for us. These people, who are very talented, understanding, and patient, have been beside us through good times and bad. The Faculty and Staff have always supported the students in all of their activities. We, the students, are fortunate to have such a wonderful group of people looking after us. We appreciate all you have done for us and wish you a year full of happiness and good times. 1986 Principal Mr. Daniel Meegan Superintendent Mr. James LaGoy Vice-Principal Mr. Michael Lawson 1987 Principal Mr. Donald M. SKI WITH CARE. v riend: SUITE Hr Blue Florida 2:25 p.m. Mr. Powers Peru N. Y. S. P. H. S. A. A. STATE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS My name is Luis Carrion and I'm from Sevilla, Spain. There are big differences between America and Spain. Tor example the food. America has a lot of fast food places. The clothes in America are different too. Mere all the people wear sneakers, in Spain we wear shoes, high School is different too. The teachers in America are softer than in Spain and everything is different. Sports, food, classrooms, the classification in the report cards and the American teachers help more than Spanish teachers. 1 personally think the American guys are very nice and have great personalities. The girls are o.k. too, even though I prefer Spanish girls. In Sevella it's very warm it never snows so we don't get to practice the winter sport skiing. The family I have now is another difference because in Spain I have 3 brothers and 1 sister and here I have 1 sister and 1 brother. My name is Jon Ander Asurabarrena and I'm from Basque Country, in northern Spain. I have been here five months and so far the experience has been interesting. Although not as successful as I would have liked. After five months I think I've come to know you and your country quite well and found a lot of things I like and of course some I don't. One of the things I like is your high school, if you should know, like I do, how a Spanish High School is and how yours is. I'm quite sure you would be proud of yours. Besides I like the fact that here they don't give a lot of homework so you don't have to study as much. Also I like the people, most of you Americans are very nice people, although sometimes you have strange ideas. The other thing I like about the north country is the snow, I always have wanted to live close to a place where I could ski and here I have got the chance. But on the other side I don't like the cold and where I live in Spain I am not used of it. I don't like the food too much either, I guess it's because I'm used of Basque and Spanish food, that is there's more of a variety and it takes a lot longer to prepare. For me there is nothing like our coussine. Another thing that I don't like is that there isn't much to do around here and I'm used to another kind of life. I suppose the influence of the city life is greater on me than I thought. In any case if anyone hasn't liked some of my thoughts about your country. I'll tell them not to worry too much because 1 really think you have a great country. My name is Timm Strotmann and I am from West- Germany. First, of course, everything was new and I was afraid that I would not be able to manage all the new things which would come up. But, so far, after five months I have managed it. I have a nice family which substitutes my family in Germany in many cases. School is easy, a very important matter of feeling good, because all this stuff I do now, I did already in Germany. So it is only a refreshing. I'm active in playing basketball which takes a great deal of time. Most important for me is being with people. I notice that American people are always helpful and friendly, phrases like you're welcome'' are not common in Germany. American people have a better relationship with each other. A big difference between American schools and Germany schools is that here there are more rules to follow. Besides my school here lasts much longer. Mew, was for me to have lunch in school. 1 like big American cars, unfortunately I am not allowed to drive which is very important in this area. The towns are not ciose together and so sometimes I have to stay home though I would rather do something. A big problem for me is to get rid of feeling bored which is caused by staying at home. Especially I notice that on the weekends. Hi!!! My name is Petri Sakari Romppainen. I am just barely 17 years old. I come from Finland. My hobbies are skiing, tennis, listening to music, and hockey. I played soccer for the school and I'm going to join the baseball team in the spring. I also am a member of the ski club in school. 77 Dear Johnny: Congratulations best wishes for a happy future. In this, it's first year of production, Mrs. McGuire and the staff have worked very hard to get the paper out on a regular basis. Producing a paper involves much work starting with the reporters-whose job it is to write the articles and get them in as quickly as possible. The articles then get typed into the computer. The layout of the newspaper is determined at that time. After all the information is in and ads are sold, the paper is printed out from the computer and then sent down to the presses. The papers then are distributed and sold. The entire operation is organized and overseen by the editor, and with a little luck, a first-class newspaper is produced. The Patriot Gazette has had a good start this year. In the coming years it should develop into a really great newspaper. Student Council is a liaison between students and faculty when problems arise. Members are elected from their homerooms and, in turn, the members elect their own officers. Student Council sponsors various school community activities. The money raised from these promotions is used for the aid of other organizations. Each runner not only worked hard but discovered that he or she had a lot more in them than they ever could have believed. We made great strides for a first year team and AuSable Valley is already recognized as a Class C girls power to be reckoned with. As a team our girls won 14nd lost 2, losing only to St. Johns. They finished second in the league and second in sectionals. Our girls defeated St. Johns at our own Invitational Meet, in fact they de- feated all girls teams in both Class B and C and won the first place team trophy. Our boys won only one meet but they worked extremely hard and improved their personal best times all year. Three individuals had outstanding seasons. Both Tammy Rule and Kelly Gillen made the All Conference CVAC team and also qualified for States. Matt Po- merville also qualified for states. They trav- elled to Buffalo to the State meet. Tammy Rule came in ahead of all Section 7 girl run- ners (both Class C and B) and finished 22 in the State. This is a tremendous accomplish- ment for a first year funner. Remember “It's fun to run! 'Zoude THE VALUE OF FRIENDSHIP Imagine life without friends. How dull would be the path walked alone. How empty would be the hours with no one to fill them with laughter and a smile. In all creation, man is the only creature endowed with the ability to laugh. Although they bring beauty to our world, flowers and trees, birds and animals cannot laugh. Only mankind was given the gift of laughter. Without friends, the gift is bare. It is the only thing given away that always returns. It is a two- way street whereupon both parties are ennobled. Anyone can be a fair- weather friend. The value of friendship is measured after all the tears have dried. True friends are the stepping-stones which enable us to overcome the stumbling blocks of life. It is said that the path to salvation is narrow and as difficult to walk as a razor's edge. How comforting it is to walk it with a friend. Imagine life without friendship? Imagine spring without flowers or a day without sunshine! It truly is one of God's greatest gifts. — Clay Harrison
