Text from Pages 1 - 144 of the 1985 volume:

Sometimes our light goes out but is blown again into a flame by an encounter with another human being. Each of us owes the deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this inner light. A. Schweitzer We, the students, administration, faculty and staff dedicate the Patriot '85 to the memories of Mr. Chester Sheffield and Mr. Wilbur Johnson. We were fortunate to have two such outstanding members on the AuSable Valley Central Board of Education. They will be greatly missed. IN REMEMBRANCE OF ERIC PENDERGAST We the class of 1985, dedicate this page in the loving memory of our classmate, Eric Pendergast. He was loved and cherished by us all. We will never forget him! Now you are gone, and it doesn't seem right! sometimes it feels like someone shut off our light! We will always cherish the times that we shared, the memories that last because we cared! And the memories you gave us will never part, we'll hold them forever, close to our hearts! The Honor Society is an orga- nization of young people who have had to meet certain aca- demic standards, be involved in the community, and participate in extra-curricular activities.- They are also responsible for reading the morning announce-- ments and raising money to sup- port their field trips. The Class of '85 held the Senior Ball at the Happy Wanderer on February 2,1985. Our hosts for the evening were Bob Cross and Lisa Bourdeau. It was a night in heaven with stars lighting the way. On the court were Tom Cross, Melinda Desorcie, Paul Savage, Patti Pray, Doug Rondeau, Sherry Spear, Lori Boynton, Joe Dubay, Teresa Bedard, Greg Me Cabe, Tonia Zmijewski, and Richie Snow. The Court seats were held by Princess Julie Kitchen, Prince Brad Woodside, King Marty Snow, and Queen Robyn Engel. The court danced to “Stairway to Heaven and later the Class of '85 danced to Let The Good Times Roll . Every one had a fabulous night. It was truly a night of 100 stars. SENIOR FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT My name is Louise Horwood and I arrived from Perth, Western Australia in January of 1984. It was much colder here than I was use to. When I left Australia, the tempera- ture was over 100 F. 1 enjoyed the basketball games in the winter almost as much as the football games this fall. Track in the Spring was really rewarding for me, al- though I had never done it before. I went to States in June. I was sorry to miss Senior Skip day though-Australia highschool students have no such tradition. School is quite easy here compared to school in Australia. You have more emphasis on sport's achievement, which I think is good. AuSable is a very beautiful region, especially with the mountains, forest and rivers. I miss the Australian beach- es very much, though, I know 1 will miss my school friends and my host families when I leave in January, 1985. Thank you to the classes of '84 and '85 and everyone else who has made this a wonderful year full of exper- iences. LOUISE HORWOOD 48 17 JUNIOR PROM MAY 12, 1984 Court: P. Savage, P. Pray, J. This year I am a Junior. American schools seem to be a lot easier than Spanish schools. In Spain you are at school from 9:30 to 5:30, and kids hate the long hours. It's a change to see kids who really enjoy going to school. My favorite subjects are biology and keyboarding. I have really enjoyed my stay in Ameri- can so far and all the new friends I have made. Hi, my name is Martti Paakkvnainen, and I'm coming from Helsinki which is the capital of Fin- land. This year I am attending AuSable Valley as an exchange student. My school back home is much smaller, and it really seems to make a difference. This year I have enjoyed playing soccer on a good team and have made many new friends. I hope to come back here again some day. It is pleasant to have people love you even when they don't know you. But of more value is the love of the friend who has found you out and still loves you. Out in the big world alone no one to hold our hand, as the day we all learned to walk we ourselves alone must stand. Everyone going their separate ways all doing their own thing, although we wish them the most a part in our hearts will always sting. The memories that we all have must be locked away, however, never left behind we'll all need them one day. Doctors, lawyers, or the forces we'll reach our goals one day with strength and determination we'll soon be on our way. Wherever we may land our strong love and concern, will be what will hold our hand and real friendship we shall learn. -Susan Russell 105 BOOSTERS Best Wishes Class of '85. - Francis and Catherine Peck Good luck in the future Class of '85. -Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Maicus Congratulations Class of '85. -Mr. and Mrs. Jim Martineau Best of luck in the future Class of '85. -Keeseville Auto Parts Best of luck Class of '85! - Bobby and Vicki Meconi Strive for the Top, Class of '85! from Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fournier Sr. Best of Luck to the Class of '85! from Fitz's Liquor Store - Bridget Fitzsimmons Good luck Class of '85! At Key Bank, our tellers know that it takes a lot more than a nice friendly smile to do their job effectively. They know it takes accuracy. Knowl- edge. And plain common sense. Because—like all Key Bank employees around the state—our tellers are working to help you. And they put in a lot of effort to make sure they do it right. I watch the sun come up And I realize that I have another day To work toward my ambitions. Sometimes... 1 watch the sun go down And 1 realize that I am a day older, A day wiser. And a step closer to my dreams. Someday... I will reflect on these quiet times; Glad that I wondered, Glad that 1 took the time to feel. For every great accomplishment Starts with a glimmer of hope. And a small dream dreamt. Carrie Rutledge 122 Sponsored by the AUSABLE VALLEY TEACHERS ASSOCIATION 7 SNIISOl
