49 High above Aurora High School a shadow appears in the sky. As it comes closer it takes the shape of a hawk. Suddenly it dives and swoops through the annual w1ndow,landing precariously on a moving type- writer. ' It's Horace Mann Hawk, the annual staff says in unison. Let's invite him to join us in a tour of the year's activities. To the joy of the staff Horace agrees, and so they proceed to tell him how it all began. You see, Horace, in the beginning there were three schools. The Hearding was the first to be built in 1911, the Johnson in 1914, and finally our own High School in 1922. When they were built the total enrollment was 1,106, but during the following years it decreased to 360. Now, our enrollment has in- creased to approximately 1700 students. The Gertrude Boase Elementary school was built in the new growing community of Hoyt Lakes to elevate Aurora's enrollment. The main attraction now are the buildings you see at the top of this page. These architectural drawings are the two new additions to our school. The first beautiful edifice houses our new gymnasium, cafeteria, music and industrial arts departments. The second includes the commercial department and adminis- trative offices. That is a brief summary of our schools history, Horace. Shall we joumey on through the years' acti vities?
