What lurks behind the curtain9 2 Does she need mouth-to-mouth resuscitation? 3 Wondering about the future. THE ROAD Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, and having perhaps the better claim, because it was grassy and wanted wear; though as for that the passing there had worn them really about the same. 4 NOT TAKEN _ by And both that morning equally lay in leaves no step had trodden black. Oh. 1 kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and 1--I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. 5 I’m the good fairy and I'll grant all of your wishes, you little . . . . . . going! i 8 The sun may not be shining, but these girls are. Tailback Terry Moore ran for 104 yards and 3 TD's to win Renegade honors while defensive tackle Fred Redwine won the Headhunter award. Lawrenceburg 8, Aurora 0 This tight defensive struggle saw both teams gain less than 150 yards in the contest. Center Bob Kraus earned the Renegade title while defensive tackle Dan Lewis tackled the Headhunter honor. Aurora 13, Jennings County 6 This was truly a big win for the Red and White as they netted 336 yards in the outing. Coach Foster Harris commented that the teams total offense of running and passing won the game. He also stated that some new talent popped up in people he didn’t know was there before. Renegade was Terry Moore with 147 yards while defensive end Scott Good was Headhunter. Aurora 27, East Central 12 A first half rout propelled the Aurora gridders to a win when they led 21-0 at intermission. The team netted 357 yards under the leadership of Renegade Quarterback Dave Kinnett who passed 2 TD’s and linebacker Troy Snider was the Headhunter. Aurora 33, Batesville 21 Another offensive outing as the team netted 353 yards, partially from Dave Kinnett’s 139 yards passing and Renegade end Les Caseltine's 2 TD receptions. Coach Harris commented that this was the best offense to date and the team finally instituted the big play. Linebacker Bill Kitchell gained Headhunter honors. Aurora 19, Madison 18 A fine performance by Renegade Halfback Mark Slayback with 107 yards pulled the Devils out of the fire to a comeback win. Down 10-7 at halftime, a winning attitude drove the AHS gridders to the lead and a fine defense held the lead. The team netted 266 yards and Cornerback Marc Long was the Headhunter. Aurora 12, Milan 6 The team netted 252 yards in the Homecoming event and squeezed by a determined bunch of Indian gridders. Lawrenceburg 22, Aurora 12 One of the Red and White best games of the season but the Tigers were just too tough. Quarterback Dave Kinnett and halfback Chris Brady shared Renegade honors as the team tallied 155 yards in the defensive struggle. Aurora 62. South Decatur 6 A spectacular game for the Devils. They broke three records in one game; most points scored, most PAT’s kicked, and total yardage. The Red and White scored 62 points. Kicker Mike Turner booted 8 PAT’s, and 598 total yards in the contest. Fullback Fred Redwine was Renegade with a career high 3 TD’s as Linebacker Dave Kitchell won the Headhunter award by simply punishing the Cougar crew. The AHS defense limited the South Decatur attack to just under 100 yards. Brookville 19, Aurora 7 The final outing saw a battle for second place in the conference and possibly a playoff berth for Aurora. But it just wasn’t meant to be as the Devil gridders gave it their best shot but could not overcome the powerful Greyhounds. Had not a TD been called back, the AHS crew could have held on to win the game. 56 VARSITY ROW 1: Cheerleaders Lee Neary, Geneva Fehling, Pam Fehling. Rita Gigerich. Lisa Schuler ROW 2: Bob Kraus. SECTIONAL CHAMPIONS Collision course? The Red and White put together three fantastic games to pull away with the Sectional nets. They shellacked the Dingleberry Bulldogs in the first game through the spectacular 25-point effort of senior center Les Caseltine, which included a two-handed stuff after a pass interception. Tim Johnson poured through 29 points in the second game against Shine City to spark the Aurora crew. The third game proved to be the tense one as it almost turned into shades of two years ago. But the Devils pulled it out in the end and whipped the Pacers. The fine talent and coaching of our team turned out to be the deciding factor and we won our second Sectional in a row. All five starters were named to the All-Sectional team. They are seniors Mike Turner, Les Caseltine, and Brad Cox and juniors Tim Johnson and Dave Kinnett. 63 This is how you play defense! Dave cans one. REGIONAL GAME 1: Aurora 49 Greensburg 47 GAME 2: Aurora 64 Union County 60 REGIONAL CHAMPIONS Before ... ... and after. The Big Red kept right on rolling in two hard-fought contests that afternoon in Connersville. We first avenged our regular season loss to Greensburg on a short jumper by Tim Johnson in the waning moments of the game. In the second tilt we built up a 17 point lead in the third period and coasted to a victory despite a furious fourth-quarter rally by the U.C. Patriots. This secured our first Regional title since 1966. Three of our starters were selected to the All-Regional team. They are senior Mike Turner and juniors Dave Kinnett and Tim Johnson. Everybody watch the ball! Up. Up. and Away! GO BIG RED! SEMI-STATE They won this . . . GAME 1: (OT) Aurora 68 Lawrence Central 66 GAME 2: Aurora 57 Columbus East 61 Final Season Record: 22-5 . . .but we won the game! The Devils came to Indy ready to do something big, and they did it. We beat a state powerhouse and Aurora was put on the map. The winning shot was a 15-footer by Johnson with five seconds left but it was our defense that won the game. After beating the Bears, we dropped a heart-breaker to the Olympians but Aurora will never forget that day because that was the first Semi-state game Aurora has EVER won! Three starters were named to the All-Semi-state team. They are Senior Mike Turner and juniors Tim Johnson and Dave Kinnett. Doctor Dave on the drive. Tulip and Les show their form. TRACK 1st ROW: M. Dan Lew!s--Treas. We began our high school career in 1973 by trudging back and forth between Northside and the high school building. Each step was taken very carefully because of the ominous eyes of the Seniors. But, we managed to survive with no noteworthy accidents. The next year Jana Miller, Geneva Fehling, Lori Meyer, and Rita Gigerich were elected as Sophomore class officers. This started us down the road, heading toward the crossroads of our lives. Our Junior year was filled with money, or should we say the lack of it. To make up for the deficit we had a yard sale, car wash, candy sale, and concession workings. By these endeavors we earned enough money to put on a very enlightening prom. The theme was Nights on Broadway carried out on the party boat Chaperon. After the boat trip up river to Cincinnati we boarded buses to Beverly Hills night club for dinner and dancing. Class officers were Lee Neary, Lori Meyer, Rita Gigerich, and Geneva Fehling. As spring arrived we watched the Seniors graduate and knew our turn was just a year away. We knew that we must soon decide which road to follow. After Christmas vacation we were hit with an unexpected gift. Snow days mounted until after 12 days, school finally convened again. This was the first time the majority of students really wanted to go back to school. Then basketball season peaked. After winning 16 out of 20 games in regular season play our Red Devils won the Sectional and Regional titles. School spirit exploded as the team won a hard fought game against the favorite Lawrence Central in the first game of the Semi-state at Hinkle Fieldhouse. But, our hopes of Aurora going to its first state playoffs were ruined by Columbus East in the final game that night. The school and community were very proud of the basketball team and their accomplishments. On April 1st and 2nd the senior class play Curtain Going Up was performed. It was a comedy, breaking the long string of mysteries from the past. As our fourth year comes to an end most have chosen a road to follow. We are now traveling that road and can look back on the crossroads of our lives remembering the good times and memories that Aurora High School held for us. 104 JEFFREY L. ACRA V. Cfl C.
