A word in that if you are to comprehend the meaning, the word must flow easily from your mouth, and spring warm and enthusiastic from your heart. If then you master the word the meaning falls neatly in line because past freedoms are clearly shown to you and the planning of the uncertain future has been given a helping hand. With this knowledge absorbed by your heart, your life can be freely fulfilled to its highest yearning and its farthest goal. Because you know this; you are free. The winning formula, which put our team in the black for the first time since 1969 was a combination of power, defense, and overall hustle. After years spent rebuilding our team jelled and finally got long awaited revenge over L'burg by beating the State Champs to be by a 7-6 tally. With another strong B-team squad this year, the chances for another fine season next year look good. Howie belter hurry! 46 Try a down and out. Will George catch up with the play? Pick up the pace Joe, you might beat him. 52 The 75-76 edition of the AHS basketball team could almost be accused of monopolizing the game. Winning everything in sight the Hardwood players finished the season with a fine 22-3 won-lost mark. Included among these victories were championships in the Holiday Tourney, the Ripley County Invitational Tourney, the EIAC and finally, after years of waiting, the East Central Sectional . Although not winning the Regional, the Devils were in the championship game. A new school record was set by winning 18 games in a row before bowing out to Rushville in the Regional. The high point of the season was definitely the game which clinched the conference championship. The opponent was Batesville and the place was the pit. The result of near perfect play was a devastating 100-54 victory. The members of this years' team deserve all the praise they received and more. They fought hard all the time and under the hand of Coach William Slayback, who molded the team, were never out of a game. The AHS student body is proud of the many accomplishments of the squad of '76. 53 TRACK Pat. Robert Colton. Class S A brig: Imagine m Class As 1972-73 freshman, the class of '76 struggled through harsh weather traveling from building to building, a necessary tradition at A.H.S. As most freshyian, we found ourselves not belonging to either junior high or high school. Soon we became sophomores and finally had a voice in Student Government. As a class we elected Greg Livingston, Pam Green and Linda Ankenman to Student Council. Our Class Officers that year were Harry Dean, Mark Givan, Ruth Spencer and Tina Guss. That year we began the tradition of selling M M candy to raise our class funds. But the highlight of that year was choosing and receiving our class rings. The fall of 1974 brought football games, Farmer's Fair, and the beginning of our Junior year. We had finally made it to the point of being called Upperclassmen” . We labored all year at bake sales and concessions to raise money for our junior Prom- Bungle in the Jungle , under the leadership of Doug Steuver and Mark Givan. Our Student Council members that year were Tina Guss, Ruth Spencer, Julie Svara, and Tern' House. Our Junior class officers were Harry Dean, Anne Sutton, Tina Guss, and Pam Meyer. That year also marked the first over-night choir trip in the history of A.H.S. Another first was a National Honor Society Chapter which included 12 of our class members. Finally out Senior Year was upon us. We were led by class officers Jill Cassidy, Anne Sutton, Pam Meyer, and Judy Newmann, and represented in Student Council by Mark Givan, Ruth Spencer, Zan-nette Lovett; Cindy Rullman, and Harry Dean. We labored long hours'over the Annual; and on one of the highlights of our year, the Senior Class play, entitled, The Best Laid Plans . During the year our class sponsored the Christmas Dance and Football and Basketball Homecomings. And everyone admits that this was OUR year for basketball both girls and boys. Our girls received th Seqtional Title, while the boys were Holiday Tourney Champs, Conference Cliamps, Sectional Champs, and finished with an outstanding record of 22-3, the best record in the last twenty years. It has been only four short years since our first day here at A.H.S., and we can smile at the memories of the times we havehad-both good and bad. But we look forward and we are glad, beause we kypw the our hands. B CLASS OFFICERS: Jill Cassidy. Pres.: Anne Sunon. V-Pres.: Pam Meyer, Sec.: Judy Newmann, Trcas. PAM (GREEN) KAREN L.
