John Locke School activities have always been thought of as being full of fun, but definitely not boring. This year proved to be different. In fact so different that the activities of the first quarter of school were no sign of the last semester and a half. The Farmers’ Fair and pep sessions in particular were going down hill. The good of AHS spirit just wasn’t there and school was Dullsville, U.S.A. But as if by magic everyone got into the swing of things and each activity became a great event. So much so that the activities of the last three quarters of this year, different from last year and a few years before, were better attended and filled with enthusiasm. Because of these two reasons, older activities such as the football caravan were revived, yearly activities like dances, pep sessions and convocations were more frequent, and new activities were added such as bonfires and Halloween Day. Annual events, like the new and old events, involved most everyone at AHS; the students, the faculty, and the parents. Mumbulu! FARMER'S FAIR Q A.H.S’s “senior” citizens have their day in the sun. V A R I E The 1974-75 AHS Variety Show was the activity most indica-rive of our school’s abundant reservoir of talent. Unfortunate- 1 ly, this reservoir was labeled “Unsafe for human consump- | rion .. Y Quick tell mel Is my mascara running? 12 Now presenting the world’s tallest midgets. King “Rat” says “cheese” as he poses Queen Kim for the shot. 15 Convocations The convocations seen at A.H.S. this past year were both varied and entertaining. From acrobats to atomic energy, from songs and dances to guest speakers. The addition of these programs was another plus for the changing administration at A.H.S. WOW! Our fearless leader. Sheriff Whisman lays down the law! Love makes the world go round. Vincinnes sent us music and song. Who says you need water to catch fish? Pep Sessions Hold ’em in, girls! We’re not through yet. If he tries to frisk me like that, I’m gonna slap him!’’ And now, fans, cheer No. 13,705 .. Oh! I knew this stupid thing would backfire!” A fitting way to climax Aurora’s hot streak. Harris, Frosh Coaches D. Rider, and T. Sharp. Reserve Coaches P. Widdlff and J. Rozell. The improving Red Devil gridiron men finished out the season with a 4-6 record. After bouncing Union County in the opener 22-6 the Foster Harris coached squad plum meted to 3 straight losses. From that point on the Devils alternated with a loss every other week. In the end the Devils proved that the future is bright and their accomplishment in the E.l.A.C. backs it up. In the league action the Devils placed 3rd with a 3-3 record. Senior Steve Coyle was voted the outstanding defensive player of the conference and was named to the all-con fere nee team along with senior Rex Martin. Now where could that contact be? The Kung-Fu Fighters have infiltrated the Aurora Gridiron. “Luckily I have stuffed-up sinuses and I can’t smell a thing.” Hey Buddy, send up two cold ones. 54 Raise your hands and shout glory hallelujah, Steve (No. 33) just scored a TD. Hey Slick, what’s that stain on your pants? Terry Moore (No. 26) tells the Milan defenders to stick to basketball. J. D. streaks for the closest protective area, the end zone. Is this the way O. J. Simpson started? or Is this the Gloria Marshall technique? DEVILS + VICTORY = BASKETBALL The Devil five made winning a consistency this year. Flashy new uniforms, new gym lights, new goals and backboards, and a fantastic winning attitude got the Devils off to their best start in 9 years. After New Year’s Day, the Red Devils had posted an impressive 7-2 record. The biggest win for Coach Slayback’s cagcrs at the half-way point of the season was a 59-45 conquering of Lawrenccburg High School, Aurora’s first victory over the Tigers in five seasons and in fourteen straight games between the two rivals. 1974-75 E.I.A.C. Johnson, M. Givan, Trainer M. Schrader. Not pictured Manager J. Meyer. The Devils finished the season with a sparkling 17-6 record which was the best performance by an Aurora squad since 1966. The Devil’s winning effort was rewarded with many awards. The biggest accomplishment was the E.I.A.C. championship crown. A loss to Batesville in the season finale forced the Devils to share the league crown with Batesville and Greensburg. The title was only the fourth for the Devils in 18 years. The Devils also received the traveling trophy, presented by the Harrison Record newspaper, for having the best record in the local 14 school area. The joy of cutting down the Sectional nets eluded the Devils for the second consecutive year. The Devils bombed Lawrenceburg for the third time in the first round and squeaked by Rising Sun in the semi-finals. But the Switzerland County Pacers fooled all the odds-makers and avenged an earlier 24 point loss to the Devils by shocking the Aurora cagers in overtime 50-47. Tony Johnson and Mark Givan received all-conference status and Tony shared the conference’s most valuable player award with East Central’s Vince McCann. Coach Slayback was named E.I.A.C. coach of the year and was inducted into the Franklin College Basketball Hall of Fame. Devils, Devils everywhere. Ready, okay. Patty cake, patty cake, bakers man This isn’t a time to lay down on the job. Where there’s a Wuss, there’ a way. B-TEAM Coach Hornbach’s B-Tcam cagers surprised many people with their 14-7 season. Highlights of the season included Sly Smith’s 25 foot shot at the buzzer that beat Switzerland County, and the biggest surprise of all, winning the E. l.A.C. reserve team tourney. The Aurora reserves were the dark horse of the eight team field, but victories over Lawrcnccburg, East Central, and Grecnsburg respectively brought the trophy and nets to Aurora. Sophmorcs Mike Turner, Brad Cox, and Les Caseltine were all promoted to the varsity roster during the season. Gee whiz Mike, that sure is a sexy shooting form. With a fairly young team, they still were able to put it together to have a successful season. There were a lot of outstanding performances with half the team participating in the District and Sectional meets. And also a handful of girls going to the Regional. Jeff Fox set a new school record in the pole vault with a vault of 13 ft. He also set new pole vault records in the Tiger Relays, the Rising Sun Invitational, and the Conference. Rex Martin tied his own school record in the high jump with a leap of 6 ft. Jerry Miller topped the old school mark in the discus throw, but Turk Gabbard bettered Jerry’s heave to claim the school record. Slick Lambert set a record in points scored in a season with 135 points scored. Slick was defeated by only one person during the regular season in both the low and high hurdles. The team finished the season with a 14-12 record which included a fourth placing in the Tiger Relays, a second place finish in the Rising Sun Invitational, and a fifth place showing in the conference. With a record of 17-10-1 and a tie for second place in the conference, the future continues to look good for the Devils since only 3 seniors, all starters, will be hanging up their elects. The seniors are Rick Wynn, Bill Dier-king, and Doug Cox. The remaining starters consisted of 3 freshmen, 2 sophomores, and 1 junior. Mark Givan and Doug Cox shared the most valuable player award and Rick Wynn’s hefty .405 batting average enabled him to win the batting crown. Highlights of the season included 4 no-hitters from the Devil’s mound crew. Givan hurled no-hitters past Lawrence-burg and Greensburg and Brad Cox fired one against South Decatur. Givan and Cox combined for a no-hitter against Switzerland County in sectional action. Likewise, there are times when we seriously get down to business. Chemistry students spend most of their first year listening to lectures, memorizing chemical symbols and valences and, occasionally, working in the lab. Second year students spend every day in the lab. During the first semester they keep a daily notebook of their experiments. During the second semester the students study an entirely different and rery interesting aspect of chemistry, qualitative analysis. 86 “If the limits aren’t on, why aren't they?' CLASS HISTORY As 1971 Freshmen, our very competitive class endured the difficulties of our first year of high school running from building to ■ ...i .... — nsey, Sue Thompson, and Linda the accompanying activities. I occur and the assurance that it as our class officers, but we also had the very highly organized Wusses to keep order and mayhem high. For a change in proms, we worked hard enough to finance our prom Color My World on the boat, Chaperon. And then that very special year came upon us. We became Seniors with Mike Witte, Donna Kleine, Tonne Barnes, and Sherri Thies as our leadets. As Seniors, we had the pleasure of backing the best basketball team that Aurora has had for many years. It was under our highly academic class that the first chapter of the National Honor Society was formed with IS Seniors among its members. For our Senior class play, we performed a comedy-mystery. Any Number Can Die. It has been four years since we first set foot inside this school as high school students, but it has been a short four years. Every year saw changes which were more often for the better than for the worse. The changes have made our high school years into a kaleidoscope of faces, activities, and memories. A Rose A rose—what a regal fragrant flower Unfolding silently its loveliness! I look into its depth of beauty And know it is God’s gift, to cheer and bless. No human hand could ever fashion One velvet petal of leaf of green. With reverence I behold this wonder And feel the nearness of a love unseen! As life continues in the halls of A.H.S., so must we, the graduating seniors of 1975. We have completed four years of study in surroundings which have become familiar to us, but now we must face a new world. We will remember with pleasure the athletic events, variety shows, dances, parties, proms, teas, banquets, and concerts. We will be thankful for the things they have taught us and never regret their passing. Always, however, we must look on to bigger and better times and leave our high school days as fond memories. We leave to future seniors, the thrill and excitement of discovering that their life does still lie ahead. But, most important, to all generations of students at A.H.S. we leave, in dedication, the joys and troubles, the fun and friendship, and the knowledge to be acquired during the four most important years of life. 158 159 160 191 162 Acra, J. 41.126 Akcman, V. 40,132 Allen, J.
