Ankenbauer GUIDANCE A. Porter M. Yoe 42 ASST. PRINCIPAL C. LYONS Anonymous - There's so much that needs to be done. I can't comprehend the apathy of the students, some of the teachers, and most of all, of the community itself. Parents have to take an interest all the way in their children, and that includes taking an interest and a stand to support their children's education. I personally believe that if we had fewer rules we would have fewer discipline problems. The students seem at times to feel oppressed, and perhaps lessening the amount of discipline or even loosening the tight reign of discipline would perhaps make the students think and feel that this school is very much theirs instead of ours. Baker STUDENT COUNCIL K. Petro J. Gigerich R. Beatty R. Short D. Kuhlmeier D. Gleason R. Spencer D. DeCamp L. Williams S. Tandy R. Lyons A. Pfister 44 What student council? They haven’t done a thing. Too many conflicts to do anything. They did a good job of what they could. Nobody cares about it anymore. They could do more if they tried a little harder. This year's Student Council has been a farce. You can’t have any meetings. Even if you can get meetings, you can't get an advisor. They’re doing as good a job as they can. Nobody tells them what they want done and then they complain because they don’t do anything. But how can they do anything if they don't know what the kids want done? A lot could have been done but there was no effort from anybody. The students weren't behind the Council. HIGH STUDENT COUNCIL I think they really care but they can't get any cooperation from anyone. I think there was a lack of interest on the part of the council and the administration. 1 think the election needs reform. They should campaign and tell what they plan to do. Also the Freshmen should be in the high school council. If I didn't enjoy young people, I wouldn't be here. 46 Mr. Kinnett - I wish that our students would not allow themselves to be so easily led by faddish social and psychological trends into the pessimism which can influence their attitude towards learning and achievement. Life is not always pretty, but it does hold great challenge and can be approached with a sense of optimism and a desire for accomplishment. LANGUAGE ARTS Gary Lyons, Michael Wildey, Rosalie Gleim, Joyce Draut, Larry Kinnett, Marian Smith Mr. Hudson - All of us, administrators, teachers, and students have'to learn to communicate better. We should learn to get things out in the open and clear the air by sitting down and talking things out. Mrs. Kyle - The teacher's primary concern is instruction in what is termed subject matter . He should however, seek to inculcate a sense of reverence for the Creator, respect for his fellowman, and a desire to leave the world better than he found it. Mr. Slayback - If I could make one change at Aurora it would be to try and develop more unity. 47 Mr. Race - I like the majority of the kids at A.H. S. I am well satisfied with them as a student body. I find most of them cooperative and receptive. Mrs. Schaich - Teaching has helped me to keep in touch with youth. You get a greater sense of human relationships as you work with kids in school. You learn to appreciate kids; what they are. One of the biggest problems is the spirit of apathy. Don't worry. Don't try to achieve. You have some kids who care but its not popular to be much better. This is what is most destructive to kids today. It's fine to criticize and tear down, but don't do it until you've got a good suggestion to replace what you're tearing down. Anonymous - Times are changing. We must have a constant program of improvement. There are many ways to effect change. But criticism is not always the most effective method. VOCATIONAL D. Knigga F. Harris L. Schaich MATH M. Moeller L. Hornbach B. Kyle PHYS. ED. P. Merrill B. Slayback 48 MUSIC W. Platt C. Hagg C. Meyette Mrs. McGill - I would like to change the degrading attitude of most of the students and unfortunately of a few teachers towards the vocational school students and in general toward those not in college prep courses. I say most of the students rather than just a few because, while those who openly say they wouldn't be caught dead going there are few, most do regard those not totally absorbed in the academic scene as somewhat inferior. JR. HIGH M. Masing-Art W. Romines-Business M. Klingelhoffer-Home Ec. M. Scudder-Ind. Arts D. Ellinghausen-Biology Anonymous - You can't solve the problem of rebellious or destructive students by tossing them out of school. The problem must be solved by work and study and compromise. Keeping them and allowing their destruction is no compromise, the same as removing them is no answer. There must, by mutual agreement, be achieved a happy medium. 49 We Learn To: Sew Weld Cook Process Data Repair Motors Etc.
