Perhaps, we students should take the time to reminisce for a moment, recalling the many traditions which set Aurora apart from the many thousands of small towns across the nation so similar to it. Aurora has long been a city of traditions. Its many towering church steeples, its quaint residential streets, and the grand Hillforest mansion, which has overlooked downtown Aurora for over a century, help create the mood of rustic beauty found in this corner of Indiana. Aurora has also many events which have become traditional through time. For instance, where in the world is there anything like the Aurora Farmer's Fair, with its carnival attractions and its glittering parade? And who could imagine an Aurora without the many recitals put on by her high school band and choir? Finally, what other town welcomes May to music, with the Sunrise Seranade to spring on Hillforest’s lawn? Aurora High School, too, is noted for its traditions. Although the school has undergone many changes in the past 100 years, we have managed to retain the best of her traditions to continue the excellence of her educational facilities. For example, we still continue the learning tradition of her classrooms, the winning tradition of her athletic teams, and the social traditions of her many extra -curricular activities. No one can predict what the next 100 years will bring; maybe today's traditions will be only a memory. The Seniors shake it up in the gym as they celebrate the Aurora Homecoming. Clique goes the camera as our Devilish Dancers pose for a picture. 15 J4ea rti a y(ow, Ciliristmas cheer Pat Cook acts as master of ceremonies in the Sophomore class' annual Christmas program. Reverend Brightwell, the guest speaker in this year's Thanksgiving program, helped us realize the true meaning of this holiday. Mrs. Simpson is applauded for her efforts to again present A.H.S. her bit of Christmas cheer. Vicki McCarty presents Mrs. Simpson a token of the Sophomore class’ appreciation of her assistance. 16 w. danced UP on m idniylit clt ear Potato chips evidently didn't satisfy one eager beaver as he munches the Christmas decoration instead of dancing. These Souls weren't exactly heralding angels, but we certainly knew they were there. The dance is slow, but is Leo? The annual staff takes a night off, as Ben Turner lulls Sharon Fox into a deep sleep with his soothing charm. 18 9 Our sexy siren lured us to this underwater wonderland. Part of our hard working crew poses beside her. Our underwater grotto took shape as Ruthie and her aqua nuts decorated our entrance. Friends, workers, and prom chairmen lend me your ears... Please ! 20 WaJ e our sea •earn come alive L Proud parents and envious friends watch as the couples cross the bridge and begin their voyage to the bottom of the sea. King Neptune and Minnie the Mermaid greeted each couple with a memoir from Davey Jones' locker. As the couples passed thru the submarinal grotto, they gazed upon all the fishy fantasies. 21 San J-strewn grottos, rippling waves Under the watchful eyes of Herman the Lobster we scuttled the delicacies of the deep to revitalize ourselves for the rest of the night. We danced all night beneath rippling waves and twinkling fish. Deke Moffitt and his orchestra enchanted us with his deep sea melodies. I. A. C. record and the conference crown. A team of great heart, Coach Brown's gridders made up for their lack of size with tremendous desire and determination. A strong running team, the Devils gained 2696 yards rushing, an average of over 300 yards per game. The offensive team averaged 6.91 yards every time they handled the ball. The defensive team was equally brilliant holding eight opponents to but 63 points, just over one touchdown per game. Kenny Cleeter demonstrates the classic cross legged pass catching style as he leaves two Tigers biting the dust. Slayback, Bennett, and Tonne bolstered the fierce defense that tamed the Tigers twice. Although our class is a rather healthy 103, the very first class was comprised of the grand total of four. This one-hundredth class, whose rings are shown at left, is better prepared to meet the demands the world will place upon them than any other preceding class: they are not only better-educated but also better-adjusted to meet the many demands which will confront them in their lifetimes. But it is perhaps their determination which will, in fact, make them the successful and productive citizens they have been trained to become.
