To the bewildered freshman it is a blurred sensation of strange faces, sounds, and experiences. But the seasoned upperclassmen have formed a pattern from this confusion and have become an integral part of the school as they SEE HEAR FEEL APPRECIATE HONOR ENJOY the challenge the school has offered them and the experiences it has dealt them. We felt gratitude toward our prom chairman, Karen Schaich, who designed and conducted our Song of the South . In An Air Of Joy And Rapture Over the golden ramp and into the glorious mansion went each bright-eyed couple, as the long-awaited night finally approached Now inside their beautiful creation, with the dim light glowing from above and the southerly-influenced music melodiously playing, all were drawn to the dance floor. How astonished the spectators do look! As this honored couple strolled down the court, the suspense was nearing its end. Royalty Reigned In Southern Splendor As our previous reigning couple, Sally Steele and Dale McClanahan, crowned our new royalty, Queen Cinda Bascom and King Don Miller, their royal court. Sonny Mix, Peggy Getz, Barney Thayer, Bonnie Jackson, Nancy Rector, John Armstrong, Charlotte Buck, and Clyde Fairfield assembled around them. In a happy daze our new king and queen walked down the court to take a seat upon the royal throne. Descending from their seat of royalty within the sum-merplace our regal couple, forever holding these precious moments to memory, began their treasured reign. As We Danced To Strains Both Sweet And Tender Everyone was enticed by the melodious music created by the Jimmy James Orchestra. After hours of jokes, dancing and laughter, we abandoned our beautiful southern mansion and boarded a bus. Off we went to the fun-filled Chaperone party boat, awaiting us in Cincinnati! With By Line and Headline Step right up everybody, says leading annual sal man, Ronnie Woodward, buy your annual today. ... 358, 359, 360... Oops, Donna says we’re one short! As you can see, we look forward to all the Hi-Lite issues. Our studious? and hard-working? journalism class, no matter how unbelievable it may sound, do produce the A.H.S. Hi-Lite and the Borealis in their spare moments. We Meet Every Deadline How does this sound?” asks out Herculean annual advisor as he struggles with another caption. Mr. Hudson's quick wit inspired many clever captions and his cool-headed guidance led the staff through every crisis. Investigating at the scene, and often snooping behind the scenes our newspaper editors, Kathy Clore and Terry Benning, kept A. H. A. up to date on the news . Striving for perfection, our annual editors, Karen Schaich, Michael Daugherty and Sharon McAtee spent many long and strenous hours worrying over headlines, captions and deadlines. [ 123 ] THOUGHTS AT THE EM) OF THE ROAD Can it be that we're finally finished? It seems as though only yesterday we had our first organization meeting------------- then the hectic days that followed, full of writing, phoning, typing, laughing, worrying, arguing, explaining, sweating, crying, screaming, hurrying----------- all to create this 1965 Borealis! When did it begin? When will it end? The answer to this can only be found by joining the bustle in the halls of AHS, by cheering the Devils wildly 'til our voices are hoarse, and clapping 'till our hands burn crimson, by raising our heads proudly as the Flag is hoisted and as our Band highsteps in grand form down the street, and by talking and joking and carving our own special niches at AHS. Who made this Borealis what it is? The Staff? The Printers? Mr. Hudson? No, AHS made this book---------it is the story of AHS Though we have tried to explain 1964-65’s story in plain terms, somehow it can’t be done! This story is different to each one of us--to each of us AHS has a different meaning. AHS’s story began many years ago, and will continue for years to come It’s been a lot of work, but writing this year’s story has been fun. Juniors, next year will be your turn to write this story. We wish you the best of luck--you, too, will find it an impossible task. Soon, the BOREALIS will be yours. Soon, it will be ours no longer, But it never was. So long. [ 124 ] WE THANK WE THANK... the many local merchants and boosters without whose financial support there could be no Aurora Borealis... the Paragon Press whose painstaking workmanship created these pages from the chaos of our layouts... Mr. Ullrich for his fine photography and his patient helpfulness with last-minute film developing... Mr. Hudson whose infinite patience and wise counsel guided this Staff and whose quick wit inspired caption after caption.. .the administration and faculty for their co-operation and assistance... the students of AHS and the many individuals whose story created this yearbook. i PERPETUAL SAVINGS ASSOCIATION 230 Walnut Street, Lawrenceburg, Ind.
