Never will we forget that bright September day four years ago when we, 103 innocent unsuspecting freshmen, marched proudly into Room 9. We really thought we knew everything since we were at last in High School. Several of our boys made the basket- ball and football teams. We chose Denny Nisbet, Larry Stonebraker, Paula Rushworth, and Joe Stover to represent us on the Student Council. While the boys were busy playing on the school teams, the girls were represented by Joyce Tewell who attained a position on the Varsity Cheerleading Squad. The girls weref occupied with G.A,A, and Sunshine. Then, too, we must not omit the band and choir, who could forget those fabulous trips? Before we knew it we were sophomores, busily eying the Freshmen wandering around lost in the halls. Our class of 92 chose John Longcamp, Rod Kinzer, 'Betty Onstot, and Carroll Snyder as our class off- icers. The band and choir both placed first division at the contest and our own Ronnie Nocks was selected to play his drum with the United States Navy Band. Watching the Juniors, we wondered if our Prom would be as successful as theirs. Eighty-seven of us returned for our Junior year. Finally, we were upperclassmen! Denny Great- house, Larry Cash, Joe Votaw, and Douglas Denmure were elected to guide us through this important year. At last, we chose our class rings and began plamiing our prom which was the biggest and best. We chose Rainbow Fantasy as our theme and really had fun planning and decorating. We all had to work in order to earn enough money for the big event. Besides the proceeds from the athletic concessions stands and the coke machine, we held a raffle at the Farmer's Fair and really had a lot of fun selling chances. The dance in the gym lasted from 9:00 to 12:00 and the Parents' committee, headed by Cliff Schuler took over and sponsored a delicious banquet, a movie premier-- The Wings of Eagles , and a river cruise on the Chap- erone Party Boat. When the boat docked at 6:00 we were beginning to get tired. Paula Rushworth and Franklin Lewis reigned over the event. Our basketball team went to the regional and so did we. All in all, this was a truly wonderful year. Coming back as Seniors, we found a world traveler in our midst. It seems that Douglas Denmure took part in a National Boy Scout Jamboree, which was held in England. At the completion of this Jamboree the boys were taken on a guided tour of Europe leaving them with unforgettable memories. We held our last class election and out of 83 members we chose Doug Denmure, Roy Rullman, Emily l-luxsoll, and Ronnie Heilig to represent us for the last time. For the first time in several years an Aurora girl, Linda Schuler, was selected as Fair Queen. Another Senior, Barbara Spaulding, reigned as football Home- coming Queen. The responsibilities of the annual and school paper were now ours with which to cope. Taking the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, three of our Seniors qualified to take the national test: Rita, Shuter, Gary Shook, and James Scharf. Our senior class pictures were taken for the annual and everyone seemed happy with the results. We will wind up our four wonderful years in A.l-1.8, with Baccalaureate and Commencement. It suddenly dawns upon us that our High School days are almost over, and a future lies ahead of usg whether it will be a success or a failure is ours to determine. The FFA is an intra-curricular activity having its origin and root in a definite part of the school curri- culum--vocational agriculture. Among other things, members learn through active participation, how to conduct and take part in a public meeting, to speak in public, to buy and sell cooperatively, to solve their own problems, finance themselves, and to assume civic responsibility. The foundation upon which the Future Farmers of America organization is built, includes leadership and character development, sportsmanship, cooperation, service, thrift, scholarship, improved agriculture, organized recreation, citizenship and patriotism. National headquarters of the Future Farmers of America is located in the Agricultural Education Branch, United States Office of Education, Dept. of Health, Education, and Welfare. National Conventions, arc held annually at Kansas City, Missouri, at the time of the American Royal Livestock Show. l45l LIBRARY Carolyn Glass, Margie Davis, Martha White, Diane Schwab, Eleanor Johnston, Marilyn Hall, Tom Reid, Behind Desk Blythe Damon, Marita Gregory, Richard Wolker. One of the first libraries in schools of its size to be organized in Indiana was the Aurora High School library. Since that time the library has shown a steady increase in size and service. Books, magazines, film strips, records, pamphlets, college catalogs, career information, and newspapers are being added regularly in order that a growing and up-to-date collection may be ready to meet the increasing demand for all types of library materials. Every day an average of three hundred students make use of the library. Reference work, supple- mentary reading for classes, recreational reading, and study hall are just a few of the many student and teacher needs supplied by the school library. Student assistants receive training and practice in library science in the high school, Northside ele- mentary, and junior high school libraries. The high school librarian, Miss Florence Rolf, serves all three libraries in a supervisory capacity. l46l HOME ECONOMICS I LEFT T O RIGHT: Mary Elbrecht, Betty Onstot, Martha White, Katherine Gatch, Joan Patton, Alice Mockbee. Training for the job of homemaking provides a challenge to any girl. A homemaker today must be accomplished in home management, child care, home nursing, consumer buying, clothing selection, care, and construction, nutrition, and understanding in all fields of human relationships. The girls enrolled in advanced Home Economics this year need have no frets or worries over managing dinners for future family celebrations, church or school affairs. These students proved them- selves quite adept in such tasks when they planned, prepared, and served the Administrators Club. Developing skills in home decoration proved interesting when slip covers, do-it-yourself projects in lamp making, easy to make coffee and end tables, and painting were a part of the improv- ment plan for the homemaking department. The climax of every year's work is a field trip to a neighboring city where visits are made to manufacturing agencies of home products and equipment. i471 X wwfwfffwv Q LMUQ s, V -ego v D as -Q s sis-:Bs tg in Nl i g , INDUSTRIAL ARTS LEFT TO RIGHT: Gary Ransom, Dennis Cofield, Gene Daugherty, Alfred Furnish, Mr. Shelby, Roy Rullman, Ronald Sortwell, Larry Satchwill, Carlos Kennett, Gary Satchwill, Gene Kennett, Jim Henke, John Weber, George Donk, Steve Callis, The present Industrial Arts program includes a fine exploratory course, which is not vocational.
