AURORA BOREALIS 1 FOREWORD Through the hallways and classrooms, the voice of Aurora High echoes 1955 56. As it resounds in our memories, we recall all the incidents that have given this year importance, and we realize that the voice will ilways be a part of us. We have all helped to raise the qualities of our school in this our senior year, and are responsible for many improvements. Aurora High in turn has helped us to grow up, to get along with each other, and to live happy lives as young men and women. Some of our numbers have been outstanding in many fields, some of us have just been average, but each of us will leav Aurora High knowing that we are better people for having been here. The voice will always be in the back of our mind reminding us that we are the future of our country. We have been the voice of Aurora High; someday we will be the voice of America. We the class of 1956 wish to dedicate this annual to you, Mr. Holtzclaw, for your patience and understanding during our four years at high school. THOMAS DARTNALL Secretary HARRY CHEEK Treasurer DR. Commercial-Home Ec. Sunshine 1-2 t CLASS HISTORY It was a fine autumn morning, that September 3rd, 1952, as 107 of us unsuspecting frosh filed into Room 9. When Mr. Holtzclaw, with the help of Mr. Shelby, quieted us down, we began our indoctrination; thus embarking us on four of the best years of our lives. In the midst of the confusion and upheaval, we elected our class officers. Ron Gabbard was chosen to lead us as President, Patti Page, Vice-President; Janice Downey, Secretary; and Helen Barker, Treasurer. Our freshman class consisted of 48 boys, outnumbered by 59 girls, My, that was a hectic year! Our first year being completed, we came back proud as could be as sophomores Once more we elected officers. This year it was an all boy affair with Pete Horn as President, Tom Scoopmire, Vice-President, Dave Miller, Secretary, and Dale Brady, Treasurer. This year our number had dropped to 98. Having completed the struggle through our second year, we were now juniors. We chose the leaders of our class this year to be: Ruth Ann Kruse, President; Dave Miller, Vice-President; Patti Page, Secretary; and Pete Horn, Treasurer. Our enthusiastic class, consisting of 91 guys and dolls, dug into this year with the excitement of choosing our class rings, and planning our prom which highlighted our activities. When our prom, Moonlight Serenade , went over with a huge success, we ended our year with satisfied minds. With the strain of studies unloaded from our shoulders during the summer, 86 of us marched proudly back for our final year as mighty seniors. To date, our class has diminished to 81, and might be decreased more by the end of the year. The officers elected for this year were: Brenda Fox, President; Lou Rountree, Vice-President; Judy Casey, Secretary; and Jack Stonebraker, Treasurer As we depart, the class of 1956 wishes you all good luck in your endeavors and hope you profit as much from A. EDDIE CLARK Cobb” Played his first year of football and earned a berth on the first eleven. LOU ROUNTREE Lou earned his second letter at end; and along with Farrell was elected co-captain. This year our football squad showed outstanding skill. Many hours were put into hard work in order to produce the results brought about by our gadders this year. The most successful football season was witnessed by many fans who cheered the team on to victory. VERNON FARRELL Bud is a three letter man and was elected co-captain for the 55 season. WAYNE DAUGHERTY Bevo another two letter man played the other end. His lanky frame gave passers a good target. COACH THOM One of the outstanding men who has worked with the Aurora High football squad in the history of the school is Albert Thom. There have been times when the going was rough, but like the team who was this man’s pride and joy, he didn't give up. This year Uncle Al reaped well in reward for the hard work and long hours spent with the boys on the Gridiron. This man and hard work is the reason for our successful football season. 52 The seniors whose pictures appear on these pages are the ones who have worked hard and reaped well in the victory column. The memories of these boys will live on in the future years of the AHS football squad of 1955. JACK STONEBRAKER Stoney has four years of football behind him, earning his letter two of the four years. DON GREEN Don was a two letter man who specialized in kicking. TONY INGRAM ’’Big Tony , small of stature but big of heart, played three years of football and took his lumps in stride. Tony earned himself a letter his senior year. 53 EARL JOBST Big Earl was rugged and tough and hard to bluff. RALPH GULLETTE Ralphie was always out done by Stars, but managed to win his letter his senior year. AURORA vs BOONE CO. Aurora won a thrilling game from Boone Co. in the Annual Homecoming Tilt. A quick pass from Slayback to Daugherty in the end zone with 23 secs, remaining in the game, spelled another victory for our Gridders 13-7.
