QD All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances, and one man in his time playsmanypartsf' These famous words by Shakespeare symbolize our high school days. In these last fleeting moments before the curtain drops, let us recall those activities in which some of us have starred and some have played minor parts. Each of us, however, has played a distinct and vital role. Through student government, sports, and club activities, each of us has had an opportunity to become more mature individuals. Therefore, when the curtain rises on another more trying act with our graduation, we venture forth into the world - ready to face its challenges. The Editors 2 gn ZpPl'QCIbfIbI2 We would like to pay tribute to onewhomwe feel has sincerely tried to enlighten our minds and broaden our interests. We are very grateful for his understanding of our problems and assistance in solving them. His jovial nature has helped brighten our school days throughout the two years he has taught in our school. Because we are truly appreciative of his unending efforts to help us mature in our ideals as well as gain pure knowledge, we, the Senior Class of 1969, dedicate this edition of the Purple and Old Gold to MR. GQSS jfsfory In the autumn of 1965 a lively, noisy group of freshmen started high school at Aurelian Springs. The boys had as their adviser, Mrs. Dorothy Greene. Her homeroom elected Jimmy Spencer as its Pres., Eddie as its Vice-Pres., June as its Sec., and Vince as Treas. The girls, adviser was Mrs. Mabel Liles. The girls elected Linda Williams as their Pres., Faye as Vice-Pres., Janice as Sec., and Laura as Treas. In the Student Council, the freshmen were represented by Jimmy who served as sergeant-at-arms and Sue and Charles who were representatives. In the area of sports, Jay, Glenn, Ann, and Diane all were on the cheerleaders' squad. Danny managed the boys' basketball team and Dwight played on the baseball team. Diane, Laura, Linda Williams, Carolyn, Faye, Sue, Linda Warren, and Shirley all played on the girls, basketball team. Martha served as its manager. The class moved into its sophomore year a little more reserved and less restless. The class was greatly enlarged due to the addition of a large number of students from the Haliwa School. As before, there were two homerooms. This time, however, the boys and girls were not split. Mrs. Mary Keeter served as adviser to one homeroom. Her class had Jimmy as its Pres., Sheila as its Vice-Pres., Caroll as its Sec., and Faye as Treas. The other homeroom was held by Mr. Donald Hines. Its officers were Emilie, Pres., June, Vice-Pres., Janice, Sec., and Arline, Treas. Both homerooms were well represented in the Student Council with Janice I. serving as Sec., and Carolyn, Sue, Allen, and Linda Williams serving as representatives. June, Tommy, and Jimmy played basketball while Glenn managed the team. Linda Williams, Shirley, Sue, Carolyn, Linda Warren, and Laura played major roles in piloting Aurelian Springs to its first tournament championship in many years. Jay, Ann, Diane, Mary, Nancy, and Emilie were cheerleaders. Charles, Glenn, Jimmy, Eddie, and Dwight did a good job on the baseball team. The class entered its junior year with hopes as high as the sky knowing that it was beginning to realize its goal of graduation. Again, there were two homerooms. Miss Betty Brewer presided over one. The officers of her homeroom were Nancy, Pres., Glenn, Vice-Pres., Laura, Sec., and Mary, Treas. Mrs. Delores Stainback was our other adviser. Her homeroom officers had as its Pres. Janice Inscoe, as Vice-Pres. Sue Butts, as Sec. Ann, and Faye as Treas. Janice was also Vice-Pres. of the Student Council with Kenny, Eddie, Janice Reynolds, and Linda Williams serving as representatives. Linda Warren, Sue, Laura, Carolyn, Linda Williams, and Shirley all played basketball. Shirley and Linda Williams were also co-captains of the team. Tommy and June played basketball on the boys' team. Nancy, Diane, Mary, Ann, and Arline were cheerleaders. Charles, Glenn, Eddie, Tommy, and Dwight all contributed heavily to a superlative baseball team. Jimmy C. managed the team. Near the end of the year, we all were thrilled by the Junior-Senior Prom which had December Holiday as its theme. We entered our senior year excited because we knew we were on the threshold of graduation. There are two homerooms with Mr. Wade and Miss Williams serving as our advisers. The Pres. of the senior class is June. Janice I. serves as Pres. of the Student Council. Tommy is playing basketball for the boys and Linda Warren, Shirley, Laura, Carolyn, Linda Williams and Sue are playing on the girls' team. Diane, Nancy, Mary, and Ann are cheerleaders. We are now nearing the end of our long trek through school. It is awe-inspiring to think that all the work, sweat, worries, joys and experiences of twelve long years will be culminated in a brief instant one night this spring. This is not an end though, but a beginning. It signals the start of our lives in the outside world. With luck, we shall attain our goals. Thus do I salute my classmates, 'gto each his own destiny. Farewell? ' dv-2763 62 S7519 gas! anofgesfamenf We, the Senior Class of 1969, being of sound mind and body do hereby put our hands to this our last will and testament. To our principal, Mr. L. O. Hill, we leave our deepest sympathy for the hard job before him. We realize that with the passing of the class of 1969 the Aurelian Springs School will lose that portion of the student body which can be classified as perfect ladies and gentlemen. To our dearly beloved faculty we leave a blank gift certificate to be used for the purchase of bifocals and tranquilizers. The following individuals leave these personal gifts: Janice Inscoe leaves her ability to act like a lady and to be intelligent to the rising freshmen girls. Nancy Stallings leaves her ability to keep her hair fixed without combing it in every class to Vicki Chestnutt. Jay Craft leaves his ability to do a thousand things at once and finish none to Tommie Hill. Diane Kerr Ryder leaves her ability to march to the altar to Sheila Kerr. Shirley Adkins leaves her ability to reign as queen of the goals to Terrie Hearp. Marvin Carter leaves his ability to smell up the school with chemicals to Eddie Pike. Jerry Hawkins, Steve Williams, Howard Inscoe and Danny Lucas leave their ability to fascinate the eighth grade girls to Andy Cullom, Terry Shaw, and Clifton Viverette. Leroy Butts and John Rogers Lee leave their ability to come to school half the time and still pass to Shelton Liles and Hugh Crawley. Arline Crawley leaves her ability to be loved by everyone to Ellen Ann Harlow. Glenn Keeter leaves his ability to eat hot dogs, pizzas, and bar-b-que with an ulcer to Wayne Hinson. Sheila Shaw leaves the last will and testament to any one that has the nerve to write it. Mary Warren leaves her ability to cheer to her quiet sister Dianne Warren. June Wollett leaves his ability to be the coolest and cleanest fellow in the senior class to Freddie Fleming. Charles Best leaves his job in the lunch room to Dan Hill. Linda Williams leaves her ability to get to school on time to play basketball that night to Dennis Dickens. Valeria Richardson leaves her ability to speak softly but carry-a-big-stick to Elois Lee. Tommy Keeter passes on his ability to fascinate junior girls from all schools to Jackson Boseman. Yvonne Lynch leaves her SAT score to Henrietta Richardson. Perry Evans and Gregory Richardson leave their ability to be playboys to Welton Evans and Larry Richardson. Sue Butts leaves her screams to the opposite team to Charlotte Warren. Vince Alford leaves his neat appearance to Leroy Adkins. Eddie Liles leaves his position as a future farmer to Richard Greene. Jimmy Chestnutt leaves his World History ability to Marvin Williams. Linwood Liles leaves his seat in American History in hopes he won't have it next year. Kenny Davis leaves his shorthand seat to anyone foolish enough to take it. Dianne Smith leaves her class ring to any boy who wants to wear it. Dwight King leaves his ability to get married in high school to Debbie Best. Ann Joyner leaves her ability to boss the cheerleading squad to Renee to keep it in the family. Faye Hawkins leaves her position as senior class treasurer to anyone who loves money as much as she does. Martha Brewer leaves her neatness to Elizabeth Sutton and Sadie Boone. Linda Warren leaves her typing ability to Wilhemina Hedgpeth. Carolyn Crawley leaves her loudness to Shirley Ann Richardson. Janice Reynolds leaves her position on the Teen Council to Connie Trothen. We, the class of nineteen hundred sixty-nine do hereby set our hand and seal to this our last will and testament. 63 csenzbrs 73 1 1295 .M . S ' J? ' ' - e , 5. - , Q .
