PIISTUM l BASHlAll FRONT ROW. Left to Right: john Hughes, Stanley Smith, Michael Gallagher, Robert Young, Thomas Gannon. BACK ROW, Left to Right: james Conway, Duane Morningrecl, Anthony Spina. Luke Hally, Robert Hopkins, Francis Reilly, joseph Farrell. Early in Oetoher the foothall leagues were formed and the first and most enthusiastic of our intramural sports was hegun. In the senior league the competition was stiff, and no one knew just who was going to he the winner. It was Father Willizxnis' teams that finally carried the slippery pigskin to victory. In the junior league .lohn Duddy's Eagles zoomed out in front and stayed there all season. After the foothall season there came a period when haskethall, volley hall, and soccer were played hy various piekfup teams, The haskethall was the closest to having an organized league, hut in all three exciting, elose games were to he found. The hig advantage of volley hall was that it could he played on the top of the hill when the field was muddy. For this reason, it was the game most frequently played during the winter season. But the snows melted and the hard ground of the field softened to the dust of the hasehall diamond. This also was played on a full scale with a league containing all the Postulants. Since the yearhook is going to press at the heginning of the season it is possihle only to predict the highlights of the season. Luke Hally, Stan Smith, and Duane lvlorf ningred are the veteran stars of the diamond. lt is expected that Tony Spina and Jim Conway will he valuahle assets to their teams. Enough of the season has progressed to predict who will compose the allfstar team, which is pictured. Allfinfall this year has heen a hetter than average year in our intramural sports. It has prof vided many thrills, tough competition, and exeitf ing seasons.

DAY SIUIII TS' BASHlAll FRONT ROW, Left to Right: James Sherry, James Same, Paul Crews. James Shea, Robert Hopkins. BACK ROW' Left to Right: Thomas Gannon, Paul Jamison, Joseph Yost, Robert Skinner. Anthony Spina, Casimir Bianowicz As the yearbook goes to press, the base' ball season has not yet begun. Therefore this description of the doings of the varsity baseball team will be somewhat incomplete. Rev. Angus N. Carney, OSA., in his second year as Coach of the Augies, held a pref season meeting to determine who will compose the team. It is expected that Paul Jamison, Joseph Yost and Paul Crews will do the pitchingf-ref placing Bill Crews and Jerry Duff, lost through graduation. Paul Jamison, Casimir Bianowic:, Luke Hally or Thomas Gannon will probably do the catching it Jamison does not fill a berth on the mound. Jim Sherry or Tom Wzilsli will make a bid for first base, while the remainder of the inf held will be divided among Bob Skinner, Paul Crews, Tony Spina, Jim Shea, and Bob Hopkins. The outiield will be patroled by Jim Sauce, Pete Napolitano, Bernard Kuebler, or Bill Lane. As in the past years the school will meet both local and outside competition. As the diamond begins to steal the lime' light as Americas number one sport, it is the hope of the team and of Fr. Carney that the Augie Aggregation will regain the position of one of the most feared teams in Staten Island.
