BACK ROW, Left to Right: Nicholas Rinaldi, Robert Skinner, Donald Tierney, Paul jamison, Paul Crews. As the football season rolled around, an intramural football league was organized under the direction of Reverend Angus N. Carney, 0.S.A. The league was part: of the physical edu' cation in the program of the school, and all the Day Students were required to compete. The various classes were divided into teams and as a result many exciting games were played. At the end of the league an allfstar league was chosen, and it is composed of William Lane, Joseph Gawarkiewicz, Peter DeMarzio, Bernard Keubler, Peter Napolitano, joseph Yost, Michael Flynn, Nicholas Rinaldi, Robert Skinner, Donald Tierney, Paul Jamison, and Paul Crews. The spirit of the league was one of good clean sportsmanship, and for this we must apply thanks to our moderator, Father Carney, and the umpires chosen daily from the ranks of the Day Students. The success of the league is vested more in this spirit than in the physical exercise that was gained. And the league this year was very successful.

afar BASKHBAll FRONT ROW, Left to Right: john Hagemann, Eugene Malin. William Barry, james Sause, joseph LeMole, Gerard LeMole. BACK ROVV, Left to Right: Rev. Thomas Purcell, O.S.A., Coach, Robert Steel, Robert Brennan, Thomas O'Hrien. Edward McCarthy, Thomas XValsh, Casimir Bianowicz, Manager 4 wiv, . Early in October. Reverend Thomas P. Purcell, O.S.A,, called a meeting of all prospective candidates for the varsity basketball team. After a long series the team of 1951f52 was taken from this large number of candidates. Bob Skinner, Bob Fredericks. Paul Crews. Don Tierney. and jim Sherry were our veterans, and Ed Dobbin. Charles Semon, Luke Hally. Tony Spina, and Mike Flynn were newcomers. 1t is interesting to note that for the first time since 1947 an Augie team has been bolstered by Postulants. The 1951152 season has proven to be the greatest season in the history of the Academy. The varsity has won 16 and lost 4. This is a tremendous improvement over last yearls 5f8 record. Two of the most notable wins are onefpoint victories over Tottenville High. 4443. and Curtis. 25-24. ln beating Curtis and Tottenville the varsity scored mayor upsets. since these schools have an enrollment so much greater than ours. As we look back in the 1951152 season. we look back on the greatest in Augie history. lt was a season that saw ten straight ivins for the Augres and many previous records shattered, ltls a season we look back upon with pride. 35

DAY SIUIII TS' BASHlAll FRONT ROW, Left to Right: James Sherry, James Same, Paul Crews. James Shea, Robert Hopkins. BACK ROW' Left to Right: Thomas Gannon, Paul Jamison, Joseph Yost, Robert Skinner. Anthony Spina, Casimir Bianowicz As the yearbook goes to press, the base' ball season has not yet begun. Therefore this description of the doings of the varsity baseball team will be somewhat incomplete. Rev. Angus N. Carney, OSA., in his second year as Coach of the Augies, held a pref season meeting to determine who will compose the team. It is expected that Paul Jamison, Joseph Yost and Paul Crews will do the pitchingf-ref placing Bill Crews and Jerry Duff, lost through graduation. Paul Jamison, Casimir Bianowic:, Luke Hally or Thomas Gannon will probably do the catching it Jamison does not fill a berth on the mound. Jim Sherry or Tom Wzilsli will make a bid for first base, while the remainder of the inf held will be divided among Bob Skinner, Paul Crews, Tony Spina, Jim Shea, and Bob Hopkins. The outiield will be patroled by Jim Sauce, Pete Napolitano, Bernard Kuebler, or Bill Lane. As in the past years the school will meet both local and outside competition. As the diamond begins to steal the lime' light as Americas number one sport, it is the hope of the team and of Fr. Carney that the Augie Aggregation will regain the position of one of the most feared teams in Staten Island.
