Augustana doesn't have a seminary anymore and even when it did. dating was a major part of on-campus social life. It all starts with the age old Augie tradition-that of the uTrue Augie Co-ed. Dorm lite is first 01 all adjustment: to sharing a room with a total stranger who might become the best friend you ever had, to sharing a floor and a bathroom with forty other people. There are joys: the sense of community, with friends only a step or two away; independence and treedom-ior many the iirst real shot at being responsibte for themselves. There are disadvantages too: little privacy tunless locked into a bathroom staID; coid. cold winters the heater in your room just isnit strong enough to fight, lumpy mattresses and cold showers that get scalding hot when someone ilushes. The cafeteria never quite replaces home cooking, but then Morn never cooked for 1500 people. The nice thing about the cafeteria is that there is no worrying about cooking or doing the dishes. The disadvantages never really change: ham manages to sneak into the menu three or iour times a week and mystery meat in some form or another makes its appearance. What's served isn't always what people are hungry for. but they eat anyway. They always eat. anyway. home sweet home 13
