In Memoriam . . . John Lennon 4940 - 4980 John Lennon, poet, songwriter, and former member of the Beatles. was shot and killed by Mark David Chapman on De- cember 8. 1950. Lennon had been an enormous influence on Americans e especially the radical teens e and their culture during the '60's and 703 As a Beetle member. he encouraged teens to stand up and show their elders that they, too, were people with talents and abilities. The Children Of Atlanta This year, over 20 btock children were killed in the city of Atlanta. Minions of donors and months of investigations have not turned up any clues as to the identity of the murdererhst. Amongst those dead or missing are 9wyeor otd Yusef Belt, 13-year old Curtis Walker and 15-year otd Joseph Belt. The tragedy affected the entire nation. People across the country sent in money and comforting words to aid the victims' families and the investiga tion. Sammy Davis, Jr. and Frank Sinatra entertained at Atlanta's Civic Center. raising $263,000 for the cause. Green ribbons, symbolizing life. were worn notion-wide and candlelit memorial services held in tribute to the children. One sympathy cord, signed by 300 people. was received by Atlanta's City Hall. tt read. the killing of Atlanta's black children have affected us greatly Each of us has shed tears for the children who have died, The senders: inmates at the Folsom Prison in California, May these children and their fomities find peace.
