If you don't remember paying for $7.66 for this annual don't be shocked. It is funded par- tially through activity fee mon- ey. Your fee money is distrib- uted through 2 processes. The budgeted allocations process be- gins with an estiman'on of the ' 'Activity Fee Receivable for the coming aca- demic year. This figure helps the var- ious budget committees gange their al- locations to the organizations that re - ceive acfivity fee funding each year. Grossly simplified, the Esthnlted Ac- tivity Fee Receivable is computed by first selecting a base number for the coming school year's emollment. The base number for 1976 was 2,150. This base number is then muliu'plied times 3 quarters. an attrition rate 1'5 subtracted out, and finally it is multiplied by the $27 per quarter Acn'vity Fee . Near the end of each academic year. organizations funded annually from the Activity Fee present budgets to the Stu- dent Activities Budget committee tSABC, . The SABC is a sub- committee of the administration's Budget Commit- tee. The SABC meets in May of each year to recommend budgeted student fee allocations for the following year. This cmnmittee congisls of Dr. James Rih- beck, Dean of Students; John Olson, Campanile; and the present and future year president, vice president, and uggsurer of The Representative Assembly 1: L The SABC is responsible for all bud- geted allocations except for those going to the College Uniony The Budget Committee controls the Union's allot- R E P O R T : WHE R 1-: Y meat due to the broader involvement of that budget. The SABC deals with the allotments to student activities. The administration's Budget Commit- tee mCl consists of President Tredway. various faculty, administatms. and 2 student members appointed by the RA. Its purpose is to advise the administra- tion regarding priorities for budget building and the allocation of the col- lege's finances, i.e . specific budget allocations based on requests in support of programs and equipment. After BC approval a report on the budgeted allocations is submitted to the college's Board of Directors. Upon their final approval the funds are transfered to the accounts of the organizations. The bminess ottice maintains the accoums and handles all transactions Through the business representatives of the various groups. The cantingency allocation process is administered by the RA. When a group goes before RA requesting money the RA as a Whole must first approve any expenditures. The proposal is then sent to Mr. Olson and Dean Ribbeck for ap- pmval. The cantingency fund is used. to cover activities which were not budgeted and such things as one time purchases of equipment. If actual enrollment is greater than the expected enrollment need in the computation of the Estimat- ed Activity Fee Receivable , the surplus money is added to the contingency fund. Also at the end of the year and budgetary surpluses or deficits are added to the fund. The SABC tries to make sure that each organization receiving yearly funding starts the new year with a clean slate . Over Grass And Over Stone, And Under Mountains XW
