Pattern for Living The eastern sun streams into chapel through the large colored glass window just as throngs of Augustzna students enter by the western doors. Eating the multi-colored panes the student lets his eyes follow the intricate pattern which outlines liowers and figures, circles, squares and diamonds, blossoms, wreaths, and garlands. All the great opening is aHame with suffused light, a symphony of color, a drama of design. Against that window Augustana students are pictured as in relief. The future, as in a map, is spread out before these youth. The light of life will be broken into all the colors of the prism as the years unfold m- the green, symbol of growth, red, the sign of love and suffering, blue betokening hope and infmite horizons; the bright rays of happiness and success, the somber hues of disappointment. And weaving their forms throughout the vibrations of light are the lines that shape the meanings of lifels experiences. Some figures are vague, indistinct, inconclusive. Some are firm, clear, complete. Others suggest height, aspiration, elevation. All the materials are here. Knowledge, talents, energy, ambition, love, hope, fear, faith. The light of the Word of God strikes all the soul's endowments and reveals the pattern of life at which we work. Gradually the years develop the design and we see the meanings opening to our eyes. US of the glories the divine can evoke in human life that the chapel window of Augustana speaks to the throng of youth who face the morning sun. e CONRAD BERGENDOFF

To achieve a more complete picture of Augustana, ihe 19.52 Staff has made several changes in the Rockety-I. The contents have been reorganized, and a new section em- phasizing campus life has been added. It is the purpose of this book to portray Augustana through the activities of its people, who worshipped, studied, and socialized during the school year of 1951-52.
