AUGIEITES BECOME SWEDES FOR TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS Christmas at Augie was, as usual, a busy, friendly, singing time. Carols could be heard at all hours of the day or night eon campus between classes, in the dorms at suppet-time, in the evening during serenades. Rehearsals culminated in the annual Presentation of the Messiah by the Handel Oratorio Society, Which was attended by guests from as far away as Kansas. Other early events were the Christmas Tea at W. B. and the L. S. A. patty, when students packed the Andreen dining hall to see Christmas made happier for the children from Bethany Home. Everyone at Augie, regardiess of background, be- came a Swede the week before vacation in order Santa Lucia, better known zrs Nancy Nylen, and alfendmt: EHy Larmn and fa Ptlerstm. to appreciate the Smorgasbord with its lingcnbertics and lutcflsk. Becky and her staff worked for days ahead to produce dishes that would piease every Hhicka and npojk. Santa Lucia, crowned With a circle of candles, mnunt- ed her throne at the all-school party, and Tomtegubben arrived, bringing gifts for some and fun for all. Ttae ditionni, too, were the lively Scandinavian dances, performed by members of the Swedish Club. As Angie's Christmas came to an end, all gathered for the Christmas convocation. Then everyone left for home and two more weeks 0f Christmas. qucbau MrCombI and Nxttcmckef' famimrte lb: kidseyaung and old. Ar p I g 3 .
