Whether they say Lefs go to Stu-U or just Going down? everyone means the big brick building at the end of the long, sometimes muddy walk. There in the Upper Lounge, the TV room, the various olhces and the cafeteria a large part of the campus activity at Augie takes place. The most important thing about Stu-U is the fact that it is completely cunttolled by the students. Together they have worked to clean and redecorate the whole building, until it has become almost a part of them. Weeks of hard work before school opens get Stu-U in shape. Then the Building Committee and the cafe- teria managers take charge of upkeep and operation. It's your Stu-U means everything the words imply. Stu-Uhs activity extends beyond the building, though. Through the Pep Committee it Spons- ors Homecoming, and one of its biggest events is the Friendship Fair. Special projects this year were the beginning of the slough reconversion and the Red Cross blood drive. RETURN, FRESHMEN ARRIVE IN CONFUSION 0F OPENING WEEK You remember the first week of school. For upperclassmen it was a kind of homecoming -a return to the excitement of old friends and familiar places. They were eager to see everything and everyoneeand found it all unchanged. Some of the rooms had a new coat of Paint; some of the roommates had different hair-docs. But it was still the Augustana they knew so well, and they were glad to be back. For the Freshmen, though, it was a different story. These few days were an almost be- wildcring introduction to Augustana and her people. It was a time for firststtwthe first tests, the first party, the lixst unbelievable rush of registration. They found out about stand- ing in line, about t'hazingf serenading, and finally about classes. But in the excitement, they forgot the strangeness, and when they sang the Alma Mater for the Errst time, they knew that they, too, were a Part of Augustana.
