CLASS PROPHECY After seeing the superb movie, Around the World in 80 Days, I, MARILYN CROSDALE MATYSIK, decided to make a trip around the world and look up my old classmates who had graduated a few years ago. As I was getting settled in the seat of a very luxurious airplane, Iwas very surprised and pleased to see that the stewardess was none other than PATRICIA SMITH, who had now taken to the air in her pursuit of happiness. We talked for awhile and she told tne that JERRY ALMG and his wife were now living in California. Jerry has a coaching job at U,C,L,A, She told me that he even raised l1is own football teaml Pat left me then to make some last minute changes in her schedule, so I made myself comfortable and got ready for the long trip ahead of me. Suddenly Iheard a familiar voice speaking my name. I turned and to my astonishment, there stood NAOMIE SMITH. As usual she was talking a mile a minute. I quickly leamed that she was a social worker and that she was trying to improve the working conditions among the savage headhunters along the Amazon River, It seems this had always been her secret ambition and now she was fulfilling it. She was running low on equipment down there and had to make an emergency trip to our country to get it. Naomie told me that she flew here with the world famous RONALD ZANK, who had broken the sound barrier three times in one day. He recently won the top award for mass production of space helmets for children. The children would send in so many Wheatie boxtops and they would get a space helmet. Ronnie was taking money home by the Bushels from this terrific invention. Naomie also informed me that there were now Eight World Wonders to see rather than the original Seven. It seems DONALD HATCH had built a bridge across the Atlantic Ocean. He is now the highest paid engineer in the world and he and his wife, Shirley, are residing in Augusta, Wisconsin. As we were flying over the Atlantic, Ihappened to glance down and saw the very famous steamship, Bachelors Haven, gliding smoothly over the waves, We flew down for a closer look and imagine my surprise when I saw KARL PERRY at the captains wheel, WILLIAM SCHMIDT giving out orders, and KENNETH SCOTT swabbing the decksl It seems these men were confirmed bachelors and had decided to be isolated from all women by going out to sea. That evening we landed in Dublin, Ireland. As Iwas walking down the street I ran into NORMA SHOEMAKER KELLY. She told me that oneday in the near future she was going to send her family of boys to Notre Dame. Norma told me that JERRY CRANDALL was a famous radio comedian and that his dry jokes would send anybody into fits of laughter. I left Norma and hurried on my way to my hotel which was uniquely named, Davy's Locker. I went to register for my room. At the desk I found out that many of our old classmates dropped in to see him. Some of these were REBECCA RUGOTZKE who was a famous Parisian model and designer, and was one ofthe most-sought-after women in the world. Becky rooms with PATRICIA IDA who recently graduated from the Super Duper Snooper Detective Agency and is now a full- fledged private eye. She is determined to get a man one way or another! Davy told me that JOYCE DRAEGER and ROBERT PADDOCK were planning to take the big step any day now, and often came to him for advice on the subject of matrimony. WARREN HONADEL was touring the world with the tnoney he made off his prize winning cattle and he stopped in to say Hello to Davy and L Warren told us that MARCELLA REETZ and her fiance, Bill Pettis, were planning to make a good will tour of Russia, but Marcella, being such an expert household manager, hated anything that was as stiff and formal as Iron Curtains, so she decided that they should go to France where the latest fashions were lace instead of iron. Marcella was always a practical girl! After our brief stopover in Ireland, we were on our way once more. Suddenly there was a lot of commotion by the gates so our plane came to a screeching halt. A man was galloping across the air strip toward our plane carrying hundreds of tiny boxes. The word was passed back to me that we now had a very distinguished man in our midst. Icraned my neck and tried in vain to see who it was. Imagine my shocked surprise when my gaze fell upon RICHARD LE BARRON who was now the owner of the fabulous Itchy Witchy Flea Circus--which explained what was in all those boxes he was toting. Rich told me that he had just visited ETHEL WILKINSON ERDMAN at her new home in Moscow and he seemed very pleased with his visit. It seems he acquired two of his top performers from their hound dog which was approp- riately named Elvis. After catching up on most of the latest gossip, I sat quietly looking out the window, when a speck far out in space attracted my attention, As the obstacle approached me, lmade out the outline of a very streamlined jet and a rather dilapidated old relic of a plane from the Japanese War days. As the first plane zoomed by, I saw that LOYAL MONSON was at the pilots wheel and that he kept peering frantically over his shoulder. As he whizzed by, I noticed that he had that trapped look in his eyes. He had a very good reason too, for following closely behind him in that old relic of a plane was MONA REDMOND in hot pursuit. We knew it was only a matter of time before she would land him. I started to read an exciting novel, and I must have fallen asleep for the next thing I knew we were landing in Rome, Italy. I stepped off the plane and ran right into SHARRON LANWWORTHY who told me she was touring all the army camps looking for Richard Zhe, but so far she wasn't having much luck. I quickly told her about Pat Ida being a private eye and she said she'd have to hire her to find him. I asked Sharron how things were getting along in the U.S. and she informed me that two of our classmates LUELLA HANSON and FRANCIS THOMPSON were new members of Congress and were fighting for equal rights. They carried on many long, heated arguments and so far all they have is a pile of vetoed bills. I asked Sharron to come tothe stock car races with me but she had other plans, so we came to parting ways. I found a seat at the auto park. Out in the middle of the field I saw LARRY DREHMEL racing his motorcycle in circles around a motordrome. This came natural to Larry because he was usually going around in circles over Nancy anyway. I looked at my program and saw that he was the stunt man of the show. After the exciting races, I went back to the plane and this time our next stop was to be Wisconsin. Our trip back home went very fast for me. As Istepped off the plane ldecided that l'd stop at our high school and see how much things had changed since I was a student there. BRUCE MC CARTY was now the Superintendent of old A.H.S. It seemed he had loved school so much he decided to make a career of it. He told tne that RONALD HARKE was thenew Agriculture teacher. Ron had invented a new vitamin pill for cows and he often went over to Randalls to see how his experiments worked on their cattle. Bruce assured me this was the only reason Ron ever went to Randallsl I walked down the street feeling very happy' and contented that my trip around the world was a big success and that I knew what the status was of the 1957 graduates from Augusta High School.
