The College Campus in Summer During the Spring Quarter and Sununer Quarter, our campu? is looking at the very Ijest. Walking in the shade of the ancient trees, amidst the otlier !)uild- ings of the college, it is difficult to imagine that one is living in the twentietli centurv. Xr It would seem that at any moment Scarlett O ' Hara, Rhett Butler, and Ash- ley Wilkes might appear strolling between the Magnolia and Dogwoods, and that The Old South hasn ' t gone with the wind after all. .r« f ' - :fe- .-. . dl j • . One almost expects that crinolines and Confederate uniforms would be worn. Instead of a modern automobile parked in the driveway one half expects to see a carriage and horses. V But time marches on, and the old makes way for the new. Some of the old wooden buildings are pulled down. Renovations are made, space is cleared, and modern buildings are erected. Libraries and classrooms take the place of old warehouses. Wliile the campus gives the impression of Ante Belhim Days, one has only to step into the modern classrooms and well-equipped laboratories to find one- self in the mid-twentieth century. August College is an up-to-date, modern, progressive place of learning. The characters in Gone With tlie Wind would have been horrified to see modern fashions. One can imagine what thev vould liave said about the clothes we wear in colle2,e today. 14 Aunt Pittipat would have swooned indeed if she had seen the administra- tors, faculty members, and students, had she visited our college during sum- mer school when everyone wears unconventional attire. These informal shots made in the student center demonstrate. 5 Dedication We the students of Augusta College wish to express our appreciation and gratitude to Miss Jean Williams who has been working with the commercial students for a number of years. Miss Williams, like several others on our faculty, was a student of Au- gusta College herself. Through her guidance and help many of our grad- uates have gone on to successful busi- ness careers. Because of her devotion to her work in developing the minds and characters of her students, and because of her friendliness to everyone at the college, we desire to dedicate White Columns 1963 to her.
