The student center is a popular spot between classes. GLIMPSES OF STUDENT LIFE Chess is becoming increasingly popular at Augusta College. Young artists find much to sketch on this beautiful campus. Students take a break on registration day. REFLECT MANY VARIED ACTIVITIES Several of the boys organize a football game between classes. Some of the students use the photographed for target practice. CLASSES ALGEBRA Students learn fundamental operations with imaginary numbers. PHYSICS Mr. Talley demonstrates the principle of the in- clined plane. BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION Jim Burns explains the Annual Report of the Georgia Railroad Bank to the business organiza- tion and management class. BIOLOGY 13 ART Hubert Starzer completes a practice exercise in engineering drawing. ENGINEERING DRAWING CHORUS Avis Rollins does a pencil sketch while Charles Bailey completes a water color. Miss McConnell ' s choral group practices a new number. 14 PSYCHOLOGY Mr. Galloway points out the psychology used in effective advertising. SHORTHAND Secretarial students gain speed in shorthand through practice. ENGLISH Mr. Cowling ' s English class listens to a recording of Chaucer ' s Canterbury Tales. ' IS HIGHLIGHTS . . . College students in the Augusta area enjoy the Inter-Varsity Christmas party, given by the Augusta College chapter. On registration day this scene is a familiar one as stu- dents arrange their schedules for the coming quarter. The Student NEA sponsors the King of Hearts Valentine Dance. At the BELLRINGER ' S Halloween party Mr. Cowling forsees a shocking future for an Augusta College student. Candidates campaign vigorously for Student Council offices. In 1957 the freshmen elected as their president Tony Atkins, who also served as vice president of the Student Council. Gail Bennett was secretary-treasurer and Student Council representatives were Barbara Best, Mary Helen McGinty and Jeanette Bodenhamer. Tony and Mary Helen were voted Freshman Favorites. Several changes were effected in 1958. The Junior College of Augusta was renamed Augusta College and was placed under the University System of Georgia. As a result, it began operating imder the quarter system. Butch Myrick and Mary Helen McGinty represented the school as Mr. and Miss Augusta College. Barbara Tucker reigned over the Christmas Belle Ball, which will become a tradition of the college. 30 MADELINE RUTH ALDRED Carefree as the day is long ... a won- derful friend . . . possesses a jolly laugh.
