Machovec by way of thanks for their unselfish love and devotion to the students and staff of Augusta Christian, and for their many long and tedious hours of doing the Lord's work for the betterment of Augusta Christian School. We love you both, and we thank you. Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. I John 4:7 3 Administration, Faculty, Staff Pointing Out the Way! 1979 Richard A. Machovec Headmaster 1948 Headmaster's Message Which way? We could bemoan the multitude of responsibilities that faces us throughout our lives and the endless series of roadblocks that loom before us in our daily attack on these responsibilities. We won't bemoan; we can't bemoan. Which way, then? Where do we begin? First, the wrong way. If we had no goals, no plans of attack, no idea of our roles, and little sense of priorities, we certainly would be bemoaning. The current way, however, of ACS is based upon three verses of Scripture. As stewards of the resources entrusted to us, we must 'be fervent in spirit, diligent in business, serving the Lord' (Romans 12:11); 'Doing all things decently and in order' (1 Cor. 14:40); 'Wise in the ways of the world' (Luke 16:8). From these verses we have set clear, measurable objectives to which our educational ministry is committed. These take time and prayer, and are a concerted effort of the Team: the Parents, the Faculty, and the Board. Once again — thanks, team, for a 'winning spiritual and educational year.' A Year Of . . . Cheering and Playing And Learning our Lessons, But Most of All, It was a Year Of God's Blessings. Vice Ruth M. Lewis Vice-Principal Jr. High High School Principal's Message Which Way? When I was a student in college, more years ago than I would like to remember, a professor made a point that has stayed with me, 'We really don't have a choice; for in the final analysis there is ONLY ONE WAY TO GO.' We cannot go two ways at one time. It is my fervent prayer that the educational program of Augusta Christian High School should not only prepare our young people for life in the everyday world, but would prepare them for eternity. 'Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in there at. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.' The completion of our new gym and the dedication of the students and coaches to athletics demonstrated the strong will and determination it takes to be a winner. With another year of experience and the continued support of our families, the 1979-80 season will clearly indicate that the Augusta Christian Lions have arrived! Athletic Director's Message Spencer M. Wheeler 30 Pigskin Review '78 Coach John Small (right) with banquet speaker Mike Kolen, also a former Pro '78 will be remembered as a year of growth for the gridiron Lions. They felt the sting of defeat, but between the enthusiasm of Assistant Coach Spencer Wheeler and the expertise of Head Coach John Small, former All-American and pro with Atlanta and Detroit, the Lions were destined to grow and improve. Steve Waters, who broke a school record with an awesome 22 individual tackles per game average, Bob Voelker, and Bert Moore will be missed next year, but upcoming energetic leaders with a new weight room and a resurgence of Lion pride promise to make '79 ACS's best year yet! Boys' Varsity Basketball 1979 saw a new coach, new players, and much improvement. Bob Voelker lead the region 2- B in scoring with an average of 27 points per game. A school record was broken and rebroken, with Skip Newman scoring 48 against Glen Hills Baptist and Bob Voelker later scoring 49 against Effingham. It was a good year for ACS basketball — a year of shaking up the region and coming around! tn Girls' Varsity Basketball The Varsity Lionesses, under Coach Lynn Durden, showed vast improvement over 1978. This year they became known as a team to watch out for. Lori Maness averaged 15 points per game, and Cheryl Norman 12, both ranking consistently high in the SEAIS. Next year, with four senior starters, the Lionesses will be a major threat in Region 2-B. Front Row (1. to r.): Lisa Snoddy, Karen Hathaway, Susan Burgess, Janine Reynolds. Their aggressiveness and determination promises to make them a powerhouse in the future. % -X ■fj? Girls' J.V. There are twelve high school girls who definitely are and they don't hesitate to show it. Their dedication can be seen during their long hours of practice after school, hoarse voices before the game is even over, and adding an extra touch by putting special treats in the players' lockers. They urge the team on to victory, and stand by them in defeat. They fire up our spirit ... the Varsity Cheerleaders! 11 Cynthia Orsborn, Mascot, Jr. Kathy Young, Soph. Janine Reynolds, Soph. It was truly a night of jubilation, with Barry leading cheers, Bud telling his famous (or infamous) jokes, non-stop screaming for three hours, YMCA , and a big ole' pack of-Lions waking up the Machovecs and half of Martinez at 1:00 a.m. with their roars! Candy Sale High salesman in the candy sale, which yielded another $2200 toward the gym, was first grader Clay Wilson. Mrs. Pat Goodwin And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men. Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance for ye serve the Lord Christ. Col. 3:23-24 At ACS we do truly feel that we have been chosen by God to be used in His service educating and training children to serve Him. Therefore, we make a special effort to see that each and every one of our children comes to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ. Each school day begins with the children singing praises to the Lord and studying from His word. After Bible we begin numbers (Math), Writing (Penmanship), Reading (Phonics), Science, Social Studies, and Spelling. Thirty minutes of our day is set aside for physical education. The children run, exercise, play games, and learn the real meaning of sportsmanship. Music is a special time for the children. They have two thirty minute music lessons a week. They not only make a joyful noise unto the Lord , but they also learn how to read and write music. We are doing our best to train our children academically, spiritually, physically and socially so that when He calls them into His service they will eagerly reply, Speak Master, thy servant heareth.
