'l saw Godspell on Broadway, and they put the same energy and life into it. It really makes the Gospel of Mat- thew come alive, doesn't it? Those costumes are outrageous! I understand each player designed their own. to make the role more personal. The comedy is fine, but I think if they are going to put humor into it. they should leave the message out. Yes. the wine (grape juice) at intermis- sion borders on the sacrilegious. I guess it's geared to younger people. What happens when Godspell comes to Augsburg? People wonder, learn, complain, commend, laugh and cry. Many, perhaps, did not expect such a modern produc- tion. After a particularly strenuous number, actors confessed their fatigue in casual, apparently impromptu remarks to the audience: I could use a Coke. said one. After the show. another reassured.
