Augsburg is no island. Students don’t live by pinball alone. Or pool, or Chin Wag food, or the Program Commission's infrequent movies. Hap- pily. Augsburg opportunists can easily take advantage of life on the fringes of a vibrant, medium-sized city. The MTC bus system, for starters, is an understated conve- nience. Until you have lived in a city that offers less, you pro- bably don’t appreciate the number of times those red monsters belch exhaust onto the sidewalks and beyond. They are always there, and will take you almost anywhere. To the Guthrie theater, for instance. The Guthrie has Student Rush-priced tickets. An afternoon performance leaves hours to visit the Walker Art Center, and there’s still time for a stroll downtown via Loring Park and Nicollet Avenue. On a nice weekend, maybe you’ve packed up your beach bag for a Lake Calhoun retreat. After an afternoon of inten- sive tanning, a simple bus transfer brings you to Dudley Riggs’ Brave New Workshop. For stay-at-homes, there's even Dudley’s Etc. Theater at Seven Corners. Seven Corners and its neighbor. Five Corners, would be sufficient for a year's worth of student diversion. But Min- neapolis goes farther. There’s Dinkytown at the University. Lake and Hennepin. Nicollet. Hennepin all by itself, plus the Dales. A startling variety of movies play each night all over town, and one will frustrate yourself trying to choose a place to eat on the way to the theater. There's no substitute for McDonald’s, of course, but there are a lot of alternatives. Living on the fringes isn't so bad. 10
