CONTENTS COAT OF ARMS for OAKWOOD HIGH SCHOOL This year the L. G. Balfour Company designed a Coat of Arms especially for our school. The lower half of the Coat of Arms is made in the shape of a SHIELD. This Shield stands for the DEFENSE of our school and also encompasses the words: TRUTH --HONOR --INTEGRITY. The Shield together with these inspir- ing words gives the school a Coat of Arms with deep meaning. Analyze these words and try to fit each one ot these into your everyday life. Inside the Shield are symbols which illustrate goals in daily life, activities within your school and ideas for the future. The ATOMIC SYMBOL stands for the FAST AGE m which we are now living. Next to it is the WINGED FOOT denoting PROGRESS for you and your school as well as all the people in our community. This Fast World is based on progress so it is fitting this symbol be included. The MUSIC LYRE illustrates all the fine organizations within our school and the high quality which they stand for. The OPEN BOOK and KEY are self-explanatory. With the book used as a source of knowledge, this will eventually open many doors of successful ventures to you. The LAMP OF KNOWLEDGE stands on top, bold and courageous, signifying ACHIEVEMENT in the goals set for below. The BOBCAT protects the Shield and the name of the school and keeps all who wear this Coat of Arms always striving to reach for something just a little bit better than they now have.
