May I be presumptuous in assuming that as you recall activities, social events and friendships you will also have a few pleasant recollections of your superintendent. Best wishes to each of you for a happy, full, and suc- cessful life. Earl L. Miller Superintendent 6 DR. BARNES. R. OWENS, A. JACOBSEN The Seniors have now passed a period that is called Commencement . This is true in the sense that you have successfully completed a very important part of your careers and are to be congratulated for it. In a larger sense, however, there is no point at which a complete education commences or ends. We have faith and confidence that the members of the class of '62 will continue to mature throughout your lives as successfully as you have during your high school years. They were highly honored by the presentation of the Seventh Gold Award in the National Program Work Contest dur- ing the National F.F. A. Convention. Mr. Hamilton, chapter Advisor, was elected President of the National Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association, Inc. The winter calendar included nearly twenty major activities. However, the most important one was the Pest Control Campaign. This project was designed to eliminate the pest damage and stop the spread of cholera in the county. Nearly 180 people attended the Parent-Son dinner to hear Dr. Merle Betts of the Omaha Credit District speak on credit and show slides from Europe. The gross income from the farming program was an all-time high of $126, 734.91. Spring brought the State Convention and the contests. Outstanding awards won this year were by Roger Christensen, Public Speaking; Nord Brue and Mark Elmquist, Chapter Program Work; and the Chapter in Farm Safety Work. Other awards included the National Award of Excellence presented by the National Vehicle Safety Check Committee and Certi- ficate of Commendation from the National Safety Council. Numerous Community Service Projects have taken much of the time also. Some F.F. A. members will remember the judging contest as the year shighlight, while others will remember the chili suppers, hayrides, and parties. Cheating ?????????? Moo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o! Neoma Alt and Steve Lindholm contributed this window display to the downtown Christmas decorations. The art department, under the super- vision of Mr. James Hill, helped introduce many new ideas into AHS activities this year. In the fall Homecoming posters a- dorned the halls, and the art class proved that having the coronation activities in the gym would be no problem. Our old gym looked pretty good with white pompoms and red streamers covering its age-worn walls. The Chamber of Commerce sponsored a window-decorating contest at Halloween. The art class won the $15 prize with their painting of MacBeth's Three Witches. In the winter, while busy with the Junior and Senior plays and the operetta, which included stage designing, programs, and posters, the department took time out to receive honors in the SAA contest in Des Moines. In the spring the Juniors found that Mr. Hill was a great asset in suggest- ing ideas for prom decorations. An art exhibit is being planned for the fall of Four Audubon students received recognition in the state-wide Scholastic Art Awards contest. Linda Jensen and Neoma Alt re ceived gold achievement keys, Leanna Johnson received a certificate of merit and Dave Moreland received an honorable mention. Neoma was also the recipient of a Hallmark award for her casein painting Reflections . 1962. 71 Prom Preparations Anybody for a dip?' I may never walk again. The Guiding Star Wonderland by Night was the theme for the 1962 Junior-Senior Prom. David Middleswart pre- sided over the banquet as the Master of Ceremonies. At the close of the banquet, a gift was presented to Miss Esther Keith for herservices over the past thirty- two years. A funny thing happened to me on the way to the banquet. It isn't the faculty’s, nor the admini- stration's, nor the annual staff’s. It's yours. I hope that in the years to come you will get as much pleasure out of it, as I have derived from working on it. Many people had to work long and hard together to make this book a reality. I would like to thank: The staff. I'm sure we all thought, at one time or another, that this book would never be published, but here it is, and your hard work put it here. Mrs. Zentmire. I am sure I speak for the entire staff when I say that without Mrs. Zentmire’s unfailing patience and enduring sense of humor this annual would still be in the planning stages. Our photographers, Mr. Gene O'Bryan and Mr. Don Jensen. We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to these two men, for the many times they followed us around the halls, and then rushed to get our pictures ready so that we could meet our deadlines. To the administration and the faculty. Thank you so much for being so patient with us on picture-taking days. To the businessmen. By buying ads in our yearbook, you made it possible for us to have our book printed. To the Inter-Collegiate people. Thank you for the splendid co- operation you have shown us throughout the year.
