They took an aggressive group of boys, including twelve returning lettermen, and produced a team that won three games and dropped six. The Wheelers outfought several strong opponents only to lose in the final minutes. They started slowly by losing the first game to Perry 14-0 and a close one to Harlan 14-13. The strength of the team was shown by winning over a strong Exira team 13-7. Hopes were dwindled when the next three games were lost to Manning, Guthrie and Glidden Center, and Glidden. This award goes to the junior student with the highest grade average. board of education PICTURED LEFT TO RIGHT: Dr. James Ramsey, Rod Hagglund, Perry Roberts, Ben Schmidt, John Parrott, Jr., President; Gay Thomas, Secretary; A. A. Kruse, Treasurer—Not Pictured. To the Class of '57: According to Nicholas Murray Butler there are five tests of the evidence of education—correctness and precision in the use of the mother tongue; refined and gentle manners, the fixed habits of thought and action; sound standards of appreciation of beauty and of worth, and a character based on those standards; power and habit of reflection; efficiency or the power to do. I hope that each of you will find that the Audubon High School has provided you with the educational background, desire; and experience necessary to meet these tests and that each of you will enjoy a full and en- riched life as a result of having attended this school. H.H. Rice Superintendent To the Annual Staff: We are living in a period of high civilization where thoughts fly freely from mind to mind and from country to country. We cannot dream ourselves into a character, we must hammer and forge our way to success. The Audubon High School students can be very proud of this year's Wheeler and its Staff. They have forged and hammered away until we have a perfect replica of the 1956- 1957 school year. James W. Cooper Principal Office Help Virginia Jorgensen and Bernice Petersen ARLETTE HOLLISTER, B.
