Actually, none of us had met before our years at Auburn. But strangers would never have guessed it. We all just clicked ... most of the time anyway. Frank, the group philosopher, originally suggested that I keep some record of the year's events. He said we ought to have an interesting account of our last year together. Originally I told him to write it yourself. But the more I thought about it, the more appealing the idea became. So I accepted the challenge of recording, through the eyes of an average student, an account of 1985-1986 at Auburn. I agreed with Frank — I'd include the facts, but more importantly, I'd explore the details behind them in a lighter and more personal way. Jill told me I'd never stick with it. From behind her glasses, she intellectually stated that, psychologically, I wasn't up to it. But after she read the first couple mentions of her name, she started warming to the idea. Parker and Betty, the dynamic-Greek-duo, weren't too thrilled about the idea and worried about my invasion of their privacy. As it all turned out, I think they enjoyed the whole thing more than anybody. Kira, the group's free-spirit, never stood still long enough for me to pin down her exact opinion, but then none ever really knew exactly anything about Kira. And Mark was nothing but complimentary, when we weren't arguing. I'd like to think that among the seven of us, we represent an embodiment of the personality types on campus. So this is it — the story of the year... our year ... your year, and for anyone else who experienced Auburn University 1985-1986, their year. 2 jri introduction
