Local student opinion seems to dock on a sea of sameness. But if one delves deeper, he discovers the complexity of perspectives represented. The student government president fuels the re vival of Hey Day to reinforce Auburn’s reputation as the friendliest campus in the nation. On the other hand, the after-class athlete appreciates the importance of the new sprinkler system on the intramural fields and the indoor basketball courts in the Student Activities Center. Despite differences among AG students, each one's goal is to obtain an education, or at least a degree. Therefore, the scholar applauds the extra hour of study time available because of the extended library hours. At the same time, the scholar grumbles about the second tuition hike in a year, an increase of over ten percent since fall of 1983. Op— 7

CONSTRUCTIVE CHANGES Faculty and administrators, who face Auburn not as a four-year transition but as a long term means of livelihood, refuse to quickly glance at the University but rather peruse the University and its future in a broader scope. For example, many faculty support the administration's efforts to increase minority enrollment. Due to these efforts, black matriculation in the freshman class jumped from 68 last year to 144. Other faculty, tired of poor teaching conditions, welcome the opening of Broun Hall and construction of a civil engineering building. These and other advancements led to Auburn’s accreditation by SACS in December.
