t was supposed to be a typical year. Usually, the seasons were the biggest changes at Auburn. But this year was different. Everything that could have happened to a conservative, tranquil campus happened. Beating Alabama in football and having two graduates on June's launching of Columbia would have been enough to make an exciting year. Any other time, the construction of two major buildings would have made for a different year. The events section, divided into the four seasons, includes each of these stories, as well as features on the Generations Fund with a targeted goal of S61 million in donations, the governor's election which drew nation-wide exposure and a lighter story of the entire campus munching out on two-for-one hamburgers for one week to make our Wendy's number one internationally. The Funderburk controversy, reported daily in state newspapers and often in the New York Times, initiated a visit to Auburn by Time magazine and CBS's 60 Minutes. Auburn's usually laid-back students even got involved with the faculty's campaign for the president's resignation by the SGA voting 33-1 in favor of a resolution asking Funderburk to resign and buying t- shirts. The Plainsman ran for weeks the editorial Dr, Funderburk, for the good of Auburn University, please resign. The section also includes coverage of the entertainers, the players and the visitors at Auburn. Describing the year ends with a retrospective look at the year. The section takes a look at the happenings that indirectly affected 18,000 + students. Student Life - Events Editor Lisa West Photo by BOB GAMBLE
