Lecture before lab for Chemistry students. School of Chemistry To the student desiring a degree in Chemistry. Chemical Engineering or Laboratory Technology. Auburn oilers its School of Chemistry with its modern facilities in Ross Chemical Laboratory and Wilmore Engineering Laboratory. With the competition of the world powers being what it is today, the importance of a training in Chemistry becomes greater and greater. The School of Chemistry recognizes its importance both to the student and to the country as a whole and does all in its power to fulfill its obligation. In this country a good bit of the basic research in chemistry is done at our colleges and universities. At Auburn, the professors in the School of Chemistry are very active in this field. This active research on the part of the professors serves to have a twofold benefit. It enables the instructors to teach the student many things about modern research techniques and thus get an up-to-date knowledge of Chemistry. Also when this research is teamed up with the instructors’ knowledge of teaching, it enables them to train each student to face the problems which he may confront in the future. For those desiring advanced degrees, the School offers work leading to the Master of Science degree in Chemistry and in Chemical Engineering. Vice President, Ann Morton; Dc.'in Charles R. Saunders. Education seniors work on visual aids. ? School of Education Vice President. Charlotte Green; Dean Truman Pierce; President, Rex Fredrick Alabama’s educational system has a growing need for more teachers on the elementry and high-school levels. This need is being met by the School of Education whose purpose is that of training men and women for school service in the professions of teaching, supervision, and psychology. Through modern teaching methods, Auburn is now turning out more competent educators. Special areas for teacher training on the high school level include: English, language, and literature: history and the social sciences; the natural sciences and mathematics; vocational agriculture and home economics; secretarial and commercial subject: physical education, health, and recreation: music, and the arts, and speech. In addition to the teacher’s certificate which is offered after all prescribed courses have been completed, the School of Education offers Graduate programs for the degree of Master of Education and Doctorate in Education as well as a second year in preparation for the AA certificate. The dean of the School of Education is Dr. Truman M. Pierce. Dr. Pierce joined Auburn’s staff in the fall of ’55 and since then, has done a superlative job in leadership and guidance and counsel. 26 Practical experience makes better teachers for Ala- W bama. y
