I E OFFICE T POSEY OLIVER DAVIS Director of Agricultural Extension Service The Extension Service of the Alabama Polytechnic Insiitute is a stat: educational service dealing directly with rural people and indirectly with all. Through county agents, home demonstration agents, assistants, and specialists the Extension Service extends Auburn into every county and community in Alabama. Instructional work of the Extension Service is based primarily upon research work done by the Experiment Station. The Extension Service has a large part, also, in administering the pro- grams of the Agricultural Adiustment Administration which last year brought into Alabama SI0,000,000 in benefit payments. It cooperates closely with the Soil Conservation Service, the Farm Security Administrar tion, the State Department of Education, and other agencies engaged in educational development work. Headquarters are maintained at Auburn as one of the three maior divisions of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute. The Extension Service personnel totals 373 men and women who are efficiently trained for their respective lines of work. ROSA LEE WALSTON Academic Adviser of Women Students The position of Academic Adviser of Women Students is a new one on the campus. created especially to assist the women in problems arising in connection with their classroom work. The academic adviser helps students to decide on their courses. studies individual cases and makes recommendations as to the hour-load. and checks on points of weakness or strength as may seem desirable. In case of misunderstanding, the academic adviser serves as a mediator between student and instructor. Another function of this office is to give recognition to those whose scholastic standing is of unusual merit. The general problem of adiustment to campus life is carefully considered and an effort is made to interest girls in those organizations which have particular value for them. The response of the girls to this service indicates that it is meeting a real need. CHARLES WESLEY EDWARDS Associate Registrar The Registrar's Office. where both current and permanent scholastic records are kept. is the veritable nerve center of academic activities at Auburn. Among the thousand and one details handled by the office is the acceptance of high school records submitted by new students and, in cooperation with the deans. the handling of scholastic records of those stu- dents who transfer from other institutions. Arrangement of registration procedure. commencement exercises, and confer- ences with students concerning their academic standing and the supplying of information on college records to prospective employers are some of the services performed by the Regis- trar's Office. WILLIAM TRAVIS INGRAM Accountant and Purchasing Agent The accountant handles all the funds of the College, the Ex- periment Station. and the Extension Service. I-le acts as the purchasing agent for all divisions of the College. l-le is the watch-dog of the treasury in that all receipts and disburse- ments are cleared under his efficient supervision. I-le is the business manager of the College, the collector of fees. the adviser of the President on all financial matters. The adminis- tration of the National Youth Administration heads up In the Accountant's Office. I-le acts as the financial adviser of all student agencies and activities. His work is vital to the successful administration of the College.
