The Department of Public Information was combined with the office of the Registrar in 192R, thus putting these two closely related branches of the college in closer touch with school activities. In addition, this department serves as a connecting link between the college and the state. It is headed by Mr. P. 0. Davis, who also devotes much of his time to the very important office of Executive See retary. The School of Architecture and Allied Art embraces a I )epartment of Architecture, established in MW, and a Department of Applied Art. Degree courses arc offered in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Decoration, and Commercial and Graphic Arts. The Department of Architecture is a inemlvr of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and is recognized by th? American Institute of Architecture through the award of its Annual Medal. The (ir.idu.lte School offers one (lie opportunity to study beyond the Ihchelor of Science degree in all courses offered at Auburn. The principal aim of the school is to develop the power of independent work and to promote the spirit of research through well-organized facilities for advanced study. The Master's and Professional Degrees are the reward for those who complete their graduate study. The School of Military Science and Tadics was established at Auburn tifxm the founding of the institution under the l and Grant Act of Congress. It comprises a Held Artillery and an Engineer unit of (he senior division of the Reserve Officers' Train dent for service in the army, hut also training which is valuable as a part of his general cduca tion. The Dean of Women acts in the capacity of a general advisor to the women students of the institution. A closer relationship is insured to tacit woman student which gives increased incentive for higher scholarship as well as a desire for a more active participation in college activities. The Social Director exercises supervision of all social events through the Student Social Committee. Visiting girls arc amply cared for while in Auburn for the dances by the Dean of Women. f The School of Engineering was Itrst established at Auburn in 1872. It deals with all phases of modern engineering, including construction, research, materials, machinery, and processes of manufacturing. The School of Agriculture has kept pace with the rapid advancement of agricultural methods within the past few years, and each year sends out many graduates to take their places in the trained held oi agricultural specialists. Its many experiment stations throughout the state afford the solution to many problems of the farm. Auburn’s School of Agriculture ranks second to none in the South. The School of Science and Literature offers courses leading to the B.S. Degree along cultural and liberal lines, foreign service, business administration. pre-law and pre-medicine. A one-year course in pre-dentistry is also available. In addition, this school administers the fundamental scientific, cultural and literary subjects necessary for the proper training of men and women in all branches of the institution.
