f Xe.uLnl LUTHER NOBLE DUNCAN Directing affairs at the Alabama Polytechnic Institute is Dr. Luther Noble Duncan, who. with this commencement, completes his second year as President. His scholarly, wide comprehension of educational affairs, coupled with a long executive experience as Director of the Alabama Extension Service, fits him admirably as one of the outstanding college presidents in the country. Because of Ins sympathetic concern and wise leadership, lie merits and holds the profound admiration of Auburn men.

■M HIS EXCELLENCY Unperturbed l»y demands and determined in his policies. Governor Bibb Graves is guiding the destiny of the State of Alabama during one of the most trying periods in its history. He has not wavered from his determination to put the State's finances on a sound basis, to go forward with education, to continue highway construction, and to proceed with other necessary state functions. And Governor Graves has demonstrated that he is a real and genuine friend of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute in all of its divisions—teaching, research, and extension. Here his problems are understood, his m ble character and excellent policies appreciated, and cooperation with him assured.

I jilt, DEANS The Alabama Polytechnic Institute, througli its many departments, insures its students .1 wide v.v riety of courses from which to select a vocation. t hese departments are presided over l y competent, well-trained leaders who have had many years of experience in their particular lields. The (ir.idu.lte School offers one (lie opportunity to study beyond the Ihchelor of Science degree in all courses offered at Auburn. The principal aim of the school is to develop the power of independent work and to promote the spirit of research through well-organized facilities for advanced study. The Master's and Professional Degrees are the reward for those who complete their graduate study. The School of Military Science and Tadics was established at Auburn tifxm the founding of the institution under the l and Grant Act of Congress. It comprises a Held Artillery and an Engineer unit of (he senior division of the Reserve Officers' Train dent for service in the army, hut also training which is valuable as a part of his general cduca tion. The Dean of Women acts in the capacity of a general advisor to the women students of the institution. A closer relationship is insured to tacit woman student which gives increased incentive for higher scholarship as well as a desire for a more active participation in college activities. The Social Director exercises supervision of all social events through the Student Social Committee. Visiting girls arc amply cared for while in Auburn for the dances by the Dean of Women. f The School of Engineering was Itrst established at Auburn in 1872. It deals with all phases of modern engineering, including construction, research, materials, machinery, and processes of manufacturing.
