WITH THE DEANS tecture. The Department of Applied Art offers courses in Interior Decoration, and Commercial and Graphic Arts. The Extension Teaching Division serves those who cannot come to the campus for instruction. This is done through classes organized in different centers throughout the State and through cor- respondence study courses. Worlc of this type carries regular college credit. Non-credit courses, general lecture courses, club study programs, and speakers for special occasions are also provided on request. In conformity to requirements of the Land Grant Morrill Act of Congress in 1862 and subse- quent Federal Laws, Military Training has existed at the Alabama Polytechnic Institute for the past sixty-two years. The courses offered, in addition to qualifying students in the Organized Reserves of the U. S. Army, are designed to be of benefit in Civic pursuits. For the lastfourteen successive years this training has received the highest rating awarded by the War Department, a record achieved by only two other institutions among the one hundred and twelve non-essentially military colleges in the United States which offer similar courses. T The School of Home Economics offers courses leading to the degree Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. The most popular courses train young women as teachers of home economics in high schools, as homemalcers, as demonstration agents, as child specialists, as dietitians, and in a combination of home economics and nursing. The School of Chemistry and Pharmacy offers degree courses in chemistry and chemical engineering designed to give students an under- standing of the basic principles of chemistry and other subjects which add to their cultural and professional training. MARION JACOB FUNCHESS LUTHER NOBLE DUNCAN ' Dean School of Agriculture and Director Alabama Exiension Service Director Agriculture Experiment Station constantly being solved, to the benefit of all classes of citizens of the State. The Alabama Extension Service is one of three major college divisions. Its work consists primarily of service to Alabamians in agri- culture and home economics, but these are interpreted and applied broadly in order to render maximum service to all the people of the State. The Extension Service includes the supervisors and specialists who 'have headquarters at Auburn and the county farm and home agents in their respective counties. The work of this division has been enlarged and enhanced greatly bl' the Agricultural Adjustment Act which was one of the early major achievements of the administration of President Roosevelt. U The School of Science and Literature is the service school of the institution in that it offers the fundamental scientific, cultural and liter- arY Subjects necessary for the proper training of students in all of the schools of the institution. Moreover, this school offers courses leading C0 the degree with special emphasis upon each of these fundamental Subjects. Finally, there is administered by this school the courses in Foreign Service, Business Administration, Pre-Law and Pre-Medical. The School of Architecture and Allied Arts embraces the Depart- ments of Architecture and Applied Art. The school is a member of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and is recognized by the American Institute of Architects. CHAR'-E5 AU-EN CARY customs LeROY HARE Dean School of Veterinary Medicine Dean School of Chemistry and Pharmacy istry also offers fundamental training in the science to the other schools of the institution. The School of Pharmacy is a standard accredited school of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy for the training of pharmacists and pharmaceutical chemists. The School of Veterinary Medicine prepares young men for the profession of veterinarian, livestock disease inspector, governmental and army employees along veterinary lines, and as bacteriologists. Graduates of this school are eligible to membership in the American Veterinary Medicine Association as well as for appointment to governmental posi- tions for which a course in veterinary medicine is a prerequisite. The School of Education has for its objective the professional Preparation of teachers, supervisors, principals, and superintendents. The education of teachers is specifically for the elementary grades and for junior and senior high schools. The high school fields for which Professional training is offered are: The natural sciences, the social sciences, mathematics, English, the modern foreign languages, indus- trial arts, occupational studies, physical education, general and voca- tional agriculture and home economics. The Executive Secretary is a general service office to all depart- ments and divisions of the College. This office performs also many services for students. For efficiency, the oflices of Registrar and Di- rector of Public Information are combined with that of Executive Secretary, thereby bringing this combination into close contact with pm5P6ctive students, with the alumni, and with the public in addition to the faculty and the students.
