DUNCAN cnsNsHAw wnrmone THE A DMINISTRATIVE CCDMMITTEE HE executive affairs of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute were placed in the hands of an Administrative Committee when Dr. Bradford Knapp resigned. The Board of Trustees elected for this committee, which took charge on August 15, 1932, three outstanding members of the faculty, Dean John Wilmore of the School of Engineering, Director L. N. Duncan of the Extension Service, and Professor B. H. Crenshaw of the Department of Mathematics. The committee elected Dean Wilmore, chairman, Professor Crenshaw, vice-chair- man, and Director Duncan, secretary. .The committee also assigned specific duties to each member, although they have at all times worked as a unit and have received hearty and wholesome cooperation of the faculty and student body. Each member of the committee began at Auburn as an instructor and has advanced from this position to the WP in his chosen profession. Dean Wilmore began in 1888, Professor Crenshaw in 1891, and Director Duncan in 1905. The three, when they assumed their additional duties, had been connected with the Alabama Folbifejlinic Institute a total of 112 years, and their period of service at the end of the sixty-second session Ota s 8, They have performed faithfully, efficiently, intelligently, and courageously their additional duties without C9fnP6nsation other than the feeling and satisfaction of work well done. Students, faculty, alumni, and other CIUZCHS join in an expression of thanks and appreciation to them. In recognition of their great service to thc institution, the Board of Trustees authorized the awarding to each 'Fember of the Administrative Committee the honorary Doctor of Law degree. The degrees were officially esfoyved by Governor Miller, ex-officio president of the Board of Trustees, at the mid-year commencement exercises on January 25 in Langdon I-Iall. -0- TWENTY-THREE -0-

WITH THE DEANS The School of Engineering offers training in the development and operation of industry. The different phases of this training deal with construction, with materials, with machinery, and with all the processes of manufacture. Curricula are offered in all the important engineering fields and stu- dents are encouraged to register for advanced worlc leading to higher degrees. The Engineering Experiment Station has been organized to promote research along industrial lines and to assist industry in utilizing to the best advantage the resources of our State. The Graduate School coordinates the work of all divisions of the institution in courses above the Bachelor's degree. Higher training with much emphasis upon research and higher standards of scholarship are essential for the Master's and Professional degrees. The Dean of Women is a general adviser to women, and through this oflice a personal contact is secured for them. A close relation is insured which gives increased incentive for higher scholarship as well as a desire for a more active participation in college activities. The Social Director exercises indirect supervision of the dances and other social events through JOHN JENKINS WILMORE Dean School of Engineering and Direcfor Engineering Experiment Sfafion the Social Committee. . The most important function of the School of Agriculture is the training of men who fill positions of leadership in the whole field of agricultural activity, and especially in such work as that of county agents, extension specialists, teachers of vocational agriculture, college teachers, and research workers for both state experiment stations and the Federal Department of Agriculture. The training of vocational teachers is in cooperation with the School of Education. The School of Agriculture is also rendering a valuable service through its varied research program.
