Trojans Romp Big Red The Trojans, after fumbling on their first possession, looked as if they were going to have a long Homecoming game against the Gi- rard Big Red. However, after a forced Girard fumble in the end zone by two Auburn defenders, Rob Ber- ola recovered for the touchdown. Jared Dudley kicked the extra point. Following a 64 yard march on 11 plays, Dudley, on a quarterback sneak, plowed over the goal line from one yard out. Coach Dave Bates decided to fake the kick. This resulted in a Ted Bailey pass to Jud Patterson for the two point conver- sion. In the second quarter, Patterson, who finished the game with 105 yards in 12 carries, rambled 30 yards for a touchdown. Dudley again kicked the extra point. Late in the second quarter, Dud- ley found Ted Bailey across the mid- dle. Bailey then dashed 56 yards for the touchdown. Bailey again passed on the fake, this time to Rob Berola, for two points. Although they didn't score in the second half, the Trojans went on to beat the Big Red 30-0 and improve their record to 3-1. While it might be conceived that the game was totally dominated by offense, it was not. The defense had five sacks. John Barnhill had three, while Dave Allen and Tom Carter each had one. Girard was held to only 74 total yards.
