Students Explode Rod’s Pox This winter, many Central Illinois communities experienced outbreaks of the chicken pox. Au- burn was no exception. From January 11 until February 1, Rod Meidel was on an extended Christmas break; he had the chicken pox. Over the real Christmas vacation, Rod visited his niece in Chatham, who had the chicken pox. “I had them when I was a kid, so I didn’t think I would get them again,” Rod explains. Unfortunately, two weeks later, Rod’s body started to become covered with the pox. For the next four days, his situation continued to get worse. “My doctor said it was a very rare case,” he states. The only medication Rod used was Calamine lotion, which relieved the itching somewhat. “It was the worse thing I had ever had in my life. I still have scars from them,” Rod says. “I still have scars” — Rod Meidel. Rod's body was taken over by chicken pox

Foreigners Explode with Diversity They are from different countries and speak different languages — they are Auburn’s four foreign ex- change students. Mercedes Arroyo, who is staying with the Neumanns, is from Lerida, Spain. She is very happy in the Unit- ed States and is even considering attending college here to study lan- guages. Jois Nigrisoli decided to come to the United States because she was bored.” How anyone could be bored in her hometown of Milan, Ita- ly, population, 1,500,000 is a mys- tery to many AHS students. Jois, however, is enjoying her stay with the Parolas. Christian Cremer is a native of Wegberg, a city that he says sees more action than Auburn. He is stay- ing with the Kemps and reports that he has learned much about himself while here. Francisco Escobar, from San- tiago, Chile, says that while he has been here, he has found that many things he had heard about Ameri- cans are not true. Francisco is living with the Trojahn family.
